Guys,
What do you think about diversification of our hoards - coin/metal related?
Here are all the possibilities I can think of:
1) .95Cu US Pennies.(most pre-1982) 1A) .99Cu Can Pennies. 2) .97Zn US Pennies. 3) .75Cu/.25Ni US and Canadian Nickels. 4) .999Ni Canadian Nickels. 5) 90% Silver "Junk Coins" 6) Silver and Gold Bullion....1 ozt Silver rounds/bars/American Eagles, Gold in 1/10 ozt, 1/4 ozt, 1/2 ozt, 1 ozt. 7) Other Base/Industrial Metals: Lead, Tin, Brass, Bronze, Titanium, Aluminum, etc.
I'm of the opinion that a diverse approach minimizes risks and maximizes opportunities....kind of like stocks and mutual funds.
Lets one trade in/out of a metal that can't be melted (by law) into a metal that can be melted.
If it ever becomes WTSHTF: diverse hoard = better ability to barter.
Interested in your thoughts/comments.
I might try to create a hoarding related market where we can buy/sell/trade in the stuff we hoard. Someone asked the other day if coin dealers reccognized the metal value of the coins we are hoarding...and the answer seemed to be no.....well, I'm trying to change that .....I guess I'm trying to become a "hoard metal" dealer. Keep an eye open for my offers on the Buy-Sell-Trade.

The base metals coin market needs progressive thinkers like you.

For those interested, c140cessna has posted in our Buy, Sell, Trade forum. You can link here ..... You must be logged in to see this link. Please keep all business discussions there though.
As always, buyers, sellers, and traders there do so at their own risk.

Absolutely, diversification is very important.
Hoarding sounds rather negative but it is really savings. It is impossible to save "money" in a debt based inflationary economy like ours. But this Forum is the vanguard of how to save in this climate. This will be a lesson for all. May you all prosper.

theres an old saying that goes something like "dont keep all your eggs in one basket"
i dont know any hoarder who keeps only one certain metal. diversification is the only way to have a chance to make money which is essentially what most of us are after. if one metal is popular or unpopular we buy and sell accordingly.
my meager hoard consists of mostly pre 82 cents, nickels - US and canadian, and 90% silver coins.
but i also have a few one ounce silver bars, a couple 1/10th oz gold coins and even some palladium i picked up cheap.
like silver-lyf said though, this is a great way to save. all those copper cents will at least be worth face value. |
