Just thought I'd share this one because it was so unexpected.

Was up visiting my family this weekend, and my Mom mentioned that she had rolled up all the change in the change jar a few weeks back, and I was welcome to take the pennies. Now, this wasn't an ancient hoard, but probably 5-10 years worth of pocket change since the last time it was cleaned out.

Sweet, right?

So I'm going through by hand since I had some free time, and I'm seeing tons of '94-2000 cents in mint condition, very little newer than 2004...

And only 5% copper!

Sure am glad I'm not trying to hoard copper back home! (southern CT)

Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead?

You think that is bad... $300 Brinks boxes... 100% zincs!

The tellers warned me before I left, "The Brinks guy hates you!"

After sorting 3 boxes, I obtained a scale to test the rest... all were 14.5 to 15 pounds

Yeah, i expect to get burned on Brinks boxes from time to time, but coins accumulated out of circulation over a period of years? That's just weird. Almost all of the coppers were corroded, too.

And of course, none of the pretty shiny '96-2000 coins were wide-AMs or anything.

And I've never gotten a Brinks box over 15 lbs, ever. :( 14 lb 13 oz is about as good as it gets here.

Considering Verizon Business service? Perhaps you'd like to consider a nice drain cleaner enema instead?
