Yesterday I went to the bank I always go to on tuesday and bought 2 boxes of dimes. I always look at the number on the bottom of the box. Its just a habit. Anyways, the number on these boxes were different from what I have been getting. They were numbered 4145. In each box, there were 2 Mercury dimes. Not a tremendous score but I really dig Mercs. Anyways, I went out today to pick up my halves and dimes and I got the idea of trading the boxes of dimes I had with the bank that gave me the boxes dated 4145 which had the Mercs. So I went there and talked as nicely as possible to the teller and she let me swap out 4 boxes. Is this something you would do?

PS: Once I sort the 4 boxes, I will post the results here.

In the past I have done something similar. When I got that 32 dime box, I made note of the number of the box and went back and requested all the boxes with that number. The 2 boxes I got had 8 and 9 dimes respectively.

Dan are you trading the dime boxes to the same bank or are you trading dimes from bank X to bank Z?

I would have no problem requesting boxes from the same "lot", just saying is I had boxes from lot A and lot B, lot A was very good, take lot B boxes back to ask for lot A....

Thats just me, I would feel very awkward asking...

Take them all. Dump them somewhere else. "Trading" boxes might arise some suspicion.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Today and yesterday, I bought dimes from 4 branches of the same bank. The two boxes I bought yesterday, had different numbers than the other boxes of dimes I have bought today and last week. The two different numbered boxes (4145) had a total of 4 Mercs, 2 in each box. Today, I traded 4 boxes of dimes I bought today that had numbers that have been prevalent for the past week or two, for 4 boxes with the new numbers (4145). I have just found another merc in the first of the four boxes(4145) I got today. It was in roll 29. Its a 1940. So counting the two boxes I bought yesterday, today's box makes the 3rd box in a row that I have found mercs.

Highroller: I am trading boxes from bank x to bank z
oober: I do feel awkward, but I like getting what I want.
Notabigdeal: I can't take them all. The banks have to keep some for their other customers. I don't have to worry about suspicion since they know what I do. They are ok with it.

Things run in trends. If I had found two roos in box 1 and then 2 more roos in box 2, that wouldn't be a trend or a big deal because roos are plentiful. The ratio of roos to mercs is running about 13 to 1 for me. So finding 2 mercs in box 1 and another 2 mercs in box 2 does constitute a trend or an unusual find. With trends, you are either at the beginning, somewhere close to the middle, or at the end. The odds are 2 out of 3 that you are not at the end. I'll take those odds. Gotta go. Looking for that 6th merc in the remains of box 3.

HA That reminds me... Since you've obviously seen the show, do you recall an episode where a guy won 1000 silver dollars and then traded them? Sad, sad, sad...

Ok, here's the results of the 4 boxes numbered 4145....

Box 1 - 1 Merc
Box 2 - Skunk
Box 3 - 2 Mercs
Box 4 - Skunk.

The point I want to make is that if you come across a box or two that are winners, it can pay to find the rest of the boxes in that shipment.
