I'm just listening to the live Iamfacingforclosure.com webcast. Housing Bubble poster boy just mentioned that he is interested in moving into precious metals ... or penny stocks.
PMs will be the next buble. Be sure to sell at the top!

With the debts this klutz Casey owes, he will only be able to afford pennies, not penny stocks.
PM are not in a bubble, yet. Only when the talking heads on CNN, FOX, MSN, and the like start touting the benefits of gold and silver, and "metals have nowhere to go but up" then it will be time to dump the PMs and move into the investment everybody will hate. (Real estate, maybe?) |

It is a take on the Mogambo Guru's plan 1. Buy gold, silver, oil stocks, stuff that will go up or hold its value 2, Wait for hyperinflation, recession/depression/whatever, watch paper money sink to its intrinsic vlaue (goose egg) 3. Buy up stuff that people want to get rid of (land, houses, antiques, etc) with gold and silver 4. After things pick up, sell off the stuff you bought for a fortune and live royally, while keeping your eye out for the next crash/recession/whatever that always follows. It is a money making system that has worked out that way for centuries. (Adding oil stocks is a new addition to the game) |

It all depends on WHY you are worried.
I have already lived a rather full and rewarding life. I just want the same for my children and grandchildren.
If you are worried that you will not live a full and rewarding life, then, your investment horizon is in terms of months and years.
If you are worried that your children and grandchildren will not live a full and rewarding life, then, your investment horizon is in terms of DECADES.
If you are worried that your grandchildren and your nation - state will not live a full and rewarding life, then, your investment horizon is in terms of centuries.
I am not so detached as to care about my grandchildren at the expense of my children, but I am semi-detached in that I care about my children's future at the expense of my own short term well being.
Did I mention that I have ALREADY lived a rich and full life?
I do not have any sage advice for the rest of you, but what makes me comfortable is knowing that if I died today, I would have already climbed mountains, made money, painted paintings, made people happy, eaten fresh foods, had group sex, been to the opera, seen the greatful dead, fasted, broken bones, been fired, fired people, and in general LIVED.

It's very difficult to call when it's the top. I didn't back in 1980. Back in 1980 there were many so called experts who were calling for $75-100.00 silver just before silver's price crashed. When the next big price run-up in PM happens there will be those who will do the same again. They may even be telling you $hit is about to hit the fan. (You will have to decide if it is or not.) If you are holding physical PMs, then it will be harder for you to unload or sell when the price hits the roof. Expect lines of people selling at the dealers. Many dealers may run out of cash. The faster the price rise, the less under the spot price the dealers will want to buy at. This is common sense. We should try to remember to try not to be pigs in a red hot bull market. Consider selling a little at a time as the market goes up. Doing so might help you with your income tax situation. In addition, you will have less of a chance of missing the top and still be holding PMs in a crashing market.
BTW, my brother-in-law could buy and sell me many times over. He plays the stock market and even holds PMs. But he made his real money in Real-estate. Most people who come by serious self-made money do the same.

When the PM bubble bursts, I think H20 will be the new investment. Wars will soon be fought over water, rather than oil. Let's hope that this is far off into the distant futeure.

The good thing about water wars is that they will be limited to places where water is not abundant. In the great lakes basin, we're pretty safe. It's the midwestern US that's gonna turn into a post-apocalyptic dutbowl of feuding breakaway states now that we're cycling back into the long-term drought ages that brought about (along with a stock and housing and credit bubble) the great depression. Theeconomy is walking on eggshells now in a gross oil-fueld age of plenty. When we start to loose the capacity to feed ourselves, the market will fold like a chaep hooker getting pucnhed in the stomach by a fat guy named Larry.
