Hi all,
I'm sick of SAE's, so I've been looking at getting some generic silver 1 ouncers.
I've seen some wild ones! I saw one that was a 1-ounce apollo 11 commemorative coin, very nice but not exactly what you'd think of for bullion!
What's the craziest generic round or bar you've had or seen? Pics not necessary but will add to the laffs!

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

Seen one with an AK-47 on it, and ones with kittens on them.

I thought you were SAE all the way - were you not trying to dump all your Maples? I got a mexican "coin" in a lovely 5 ounce round. I've seen but not bought some pretty silly horoscope bars. |

Hope this doesn't offend anyone's sensibilities, but have you seen those "Do You Love God?" silver rounds that Jason Hommel is selling on Silverseek? They are covered in a bunch of scripture about weights and measures. His position is that silver is "God's money".
I'm not trying to stir a religious debate. Personally, I just think it's kind of ridiculous to appeal to peoples' religious beliefs in order to hock a product. But of course that type of marketing can be found everywhere... |

Yeah I'm surprised we haven't had the macjesusburger yet. That's the main difference between the UK and the USA, hardly anyone in the UK is religious, I'd wager a guess there's almost as many practising Muslims here now as practising Christians |

Two of the unusual silver rounds I have bought- a silver round that wieghs 5 ounces but looks like a silver eagle though the face of lady liberty is minted badly.
Also I bought a 3 ounce silver paperweight/round with the calendar of 1979 on the back and a compass with 4 ships on the front. the compass design is raised and meets at a dull point. the dealer turned it upside down and spun it like a top on the glass and it spun for nearly five minutes. (I wonder if silver might be the secret to perpetual motion?)
I have seen some bars with the cross stamped on them to commemorate Easter 1979, the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a few with a Playboy Bunny featured.
It seems just about anything you can think of someone stamped into siver bars back in the late 70's.

I think "sexsells" better the "God sells". I think that has been tried on silver bars as well. |

For reals. I ran across a few bars with a zodiac sign and a topless woman on each one. If the set had been complete, I'd have bought it. The bars I saw were groovy. |

Nice, but a bar with a kitten HOLDING an AK-47, now that would be pretty sweet. |

If you want to broaden the discussion to the most unusual piece of silver bullion then I have one. It's a hand poured bullion ingot recovered from a spanish armada wreck off the coast of Scotland, it's about 800grams smooth on one side and a bit rough on the other and you can seek the mould mark on it. |

I recently bought a 10 ounce silver bar that had Pioneer Casino and Hotel on it with their cowboy logo. I wish I had a picture of it to show you but most of you should remember the cowboy.

Gold and silver are mentioned regularly throughout the Bible, and discussions about wealth are pretty prevalent in the Book of Proverbs, so its not like he's pulling it out of thin air. I'm not sure that God has an official currency, though. |

good bump.
The only one that crosses my mind is a Mr Peanut silver round that I picked up a few years back. I still have it. I've got some Jesus rounds, too. But, they aren't all that crazy
I sold a round/bar that was in the shape of a hexagon a few months ago for a really nice premium. Bought it for $15.20 (spot at the time), and sold it for $24.50 in 2 days |
