| I collect what my grandpa gives me. Other than that, I hoard pennies, sometimes I do nickels and save everything before '59, and sometimes I buy off of eBay. I've recently been trying to get some SAEs, but they are more expensive and I am really cheap! |

| I collect bullion too. Anything I get with numismatic value goes away ASAP. Once I found a 3 cent piece in the reject of the coin counter, my local dealer traded ME an ounce of silver for it. Another time I was fortunate enough to buy a $1K half dollar bag off a coin counter and bragged on another forum about the 100+ 90% halves in it, a guy PM'd ME about trading for a couple $5 gold pieces melt for melt, ratio wasn't good but them was my first gold coins. Just metal to ME and I think if TSHTF that numismatics will be worth melt. HH Mark |

| I am all about the bullion. Melt value is easy to figure. Everything else is up to what someone is willing to pay. I personally like halves. I have started a whitmans (sp) folder since I am searching so many boxes anyways. I don't even have one war nickel. I would rather store a tube of halves than a tube of nickels. |

Well,
Looking to someday have a complete silver dime collection starting with Barber. (this is a 20yrs plan).
I am also putting away some nickels (paying only face value) I went over what I am doing in the one "keeping all nickels" thread.
Then some short term holdings of some numis... 2008 blue riged octopus type coins if I think they might appreciate in the next 5 yrs.
And then once in awhile maybe a few common date Morgans and Peaces, when the deal is right.
More then anything I find value in the numis because I enjoy it and thats where the real value is. |

I collect modern world coins with animals on them, preferably large-format. My favorite coins are those featuring elephants, horses and owls, but anything with an animal on it has a 2x2 waiting for it.
I have a few silver animal coins, but overall, it's not a very valuable collection. It is fun to look at, though.
My son, who is nine, also collects animal coins, as well as coins with ships on them. He has also begun to collect coins with other modes of transportation, too. He also has two Dansco books of more "serious" collections: uncirculated "P" statehood quarters (completed) and uncirculated "P" silver dollars (work in progress).
Truthfully, I enjoy helping him look for coins even more than I like looking for myself. He gets so excited when he finds a good one.

| Most of what I have is canadian nickels and silver. The silver I mostly buy at a bullion oriented shop and a lot of the dimes and quarters are not much to look at, so the halves and nickels are the main ones I've tried to put together sets of (can't afford to try for a set of dollars). I also have a few silver coins from the us, newfoundland and england. I also have some coins from the old irish pound (mostly farm animals) and would be interested to find some in silver at some point. |

| Collecting is different than hoarding I suppose. On the collecting front, I have Whitman folders of nickels I have kept from my sorting efforts. Similarly, I have a Dansco album of half dollars kept from sorting efforts. Obviously, these are all circulated coins with no real numismatic value, but I have enjoyed trying to put together complete sets of coins from my sorting efforts. I also have a set of uncirculated Statehood quarters and Westward Journey nickels. There are so many of these, however, that it is unlikely that they will ever have much numismatic value. I've never "collected" pennies. It makes me wonder how nice a collection I could put together from my copper penny hoard. |

I'm put together sets of moderns, but not the ultra modern dollars. I am finishing off the following Dansco proof albums: SBA, JFK (w/ silver proofs) and Ikes. These are all uncirulated or proof coins.
from circulation, I have a complete Washington Qtr album (minus the kes 1932 D and S) and complete Roosevelt album.
In the next week, as I am overbudget on coin spending, I am probably going to pull some more boxes of Jeffs and cents to add to my books, and hoard some more copper.
I'm also now trying to complete a set of Silver eagles (non-proof), but am trying to trade for the dates I am missing.
I have other books started of older coins (mercs, buffalos, IHC), but will not touch them unless I find something in the wild...
I am trying to figure out, the next stage of my coin collecting hobby... perhaps coins with silver in them, proof sets, completing books for my older coins, or buying slabbed key and semi-key dates. I am also contemplating a Dansco 7070... I'll probably start all of them and complain I never get anywhere! |

Well... I am mainly numismatics in what I collect. I do collect bullion as well, but definately not as much. I was working on a collection of one of every type of coin, but the types in 1794 are very expensive. I collect mainly Morgan dollars. I have about 70 different dates, all BU, including my personal favorite the 1885-CC in MS64PL. I also have a reserve of indians , but not from sorting, just buying. I collect anything I can get my hands on really! |

I have a Dansco Kennedy book I'm working on all from circulation, only missing the '70S and all but 4 or 5 of the modern silver proofs. I have Dansco Ben Franklin book which I have had two empty holes in for almost a year, the dreaded '55 and the 49S. I will have to find them too to keep up with the theme. I also bought a cheap Littleton Coin folder for another set of Franklins- it has 7 empty holes. I also have a Danco Walking Liberty half book but I have no dilusions of completing from circulation like the other two. Since I sort dimes also I got a cheap lil Littleton Coin folder for the silver Rosevelt years. If I start to get more Mercs I may splurge on a cheap folder for them too. I really like them old silver half commemoratives, if I was to begin buying numismatics that would be the direction I would go. HH Mark |

| I'm gathering the 90% silver dimes and quarters for investment purposes. However, I must admit that I'm also drawn to the older silver coins as well, specifically Morgans, Peace Dollars and Walker Halves. They are handsome coins with a history. I'm not terribly picky about condition assuming the coin is readable. I usually stay away from the low-mintage years since I'm unwilling to pay to premiums for them. |

Money is for sorting with. I figure when the books are full the game will be over so I ain't bought no coins yet. Its really all just silver to ME. Now them commemoratives I'd love to get into them but in the end they're still just $5 chunks of silver with big premiums. Has everybody seen this page? You must be logged in to see this link. I'm real partial to the California Diamond Jubilee Half cause its got the prospector on it. Maybe one day I'll finally find one of them and get the ball rollin . HH Mark |
