Hi everyone!! I have a question about error coins, specifically clipped planchets. I just found a '57 wheatie in a cwr that is partially clipped on top. Do these sell (Ebay or elsewhere) for any kind of significant premium/good price? Is there a market for clipped planchets among other error coins? I also have a completely blank zinc planchet I found a while ago as well. Advice/suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Nice finds- the blank planchet is not worth much- maybe $1 to $2 at the most. Clips depend on how much is actually missing, i.e. a small clip is not worth much but a large clip is worth more. If it's less than 10% missing then I'd guess it's again around $2 at the most; larger will be more but probably not above $10 to $20.

At coin shows almost any error coin has a decent price on them. Naturally the larger the error and more noticable, the higher the price. Blanks are usually the least valuable since so many people purposely acid off the outer layer of some coins and then put them back in circulation. Also, many people in companies where washers are produced make thier own blank coins and put them in circulation. Most clipped coins would bring a few dollars as long as the date and mint mark are present. Here too dealers are cautious since making those is also a lot of fun for some people.

I've sold them on eBay with a little bit of success. Misstrikes and cracked or filled dies, too. Most coin books have a section in the back that describes errors and gives a rough idea of their value.

That's what is great about capitalism. Everything has a price and sooner or later someone wants to buy it. So now you have 2 options: save them or sell them.
