I would like to know why they are scams as well.
To the original post, I guess I just dont see any reason to buy a "first strike" over a regular one. I just personally dont see any reason that would make this more attractive than any other Silver Eagle. |
My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

| Just like a MS70 vs a MS69 is pretty subjective, and 70's of silver eagles are a scam unto themselves. There's nothing rare about a MS70 Bullion coin to command a premium. |

| I remember reading he story about the settlement about 6 months ago, but I don't remember the details. The suit was a scam (IMO). Remember, coins are essentially a collectors market. If someone wants a first strike collection of something, and wants to pay a premium, they can. If they don't see it that way, they don't pay the premium. The fact that some people don't believe it's a special value is irrelevant to the facts of whether or not they exist. The same goes for MS69 and MS70 coins. They exist. It's up to you if you want to buy them for a premium or not. Follow your head. Personally, I think Ikes, Kennedys, Rosies and the new Washington quarters are all ugly. That doesn't mean NGC is stupid for grading them. It means I am a stupid ...hole and probably a bit psychopathic if I demand that everyone else bow to what I like or don't. (And that would qualify me for a cabinet post, except for stupid me paid all my taxes and disqualified myself) |

| Things like this make me so extremely angry. Is it just me, or does everything, including laws and lawsuits these days, protect the stupid? |

That's where these things come from. Someone who hasn't done the minimum of homework getting upset because they paid a premium they may never get back. - Would the same person buy a stock because they liked the ticker symbol, or would they check to see what company it was first? These things upset me because they ruin things for others because of their negligent ignorance. I personally don't care for first strikes, but if that's what some collectors like, and they will pay a premium, then good for them. I'll say this - I feel like a royal ripoff every time I sell an error coin because as far as my eyes can see, it's a poorly struck coin. Nevertheless, I get over my guilt because I know someone sees something they like in it. |

| I personally think early releases and first strikes are a scam... I use to think it was a demanding thing until i found out that anyone could buy from the mint and send it of to one of the grading companies with in a 30 day period and the label early release or first strike... I think it is deceiving |
