Ok, I know I've jumped the gun by a couple weeks, but I've really been chomping at the bit to get my hands in soil. Planted two trays of bell pepper and tomato. (1 1/2 tray peppers, 1/2 tray toms). I can alway keep them in an enclosed porch in containers for a while before I put them out.

My horticural adviser suggested that I just wait and buy plants rather than go through the bother of starting from seed, but I really want to do it myself.

BTW, it dawned on me that raising seedlings could be pretty profitable. Who couldn't use a little extra coin!

I'm going to look into it a little further and maybe put out notice at work that I'm taking orders for tom and pepper plants.

I just finished building my raised bed on Thursday, built a set of bows for it out of 1/2 inch PVC pipe I got at Goodwill and covered it with 3.5mm plastic to make a little greenhouse type setup and protect my plants from wind and frost.

I have Snow Peas and Sugar Snap peas that are two weeks old today I'll be transplanting tomorrow. Also will be planting a bunch of lettuces, greens, broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc this week. I should be harvesting my first veggies at the end of next month.

Just transplanted tomato plants to 4" jiffy pots, peppers will need another week before transplanting, but they're coming along nicely. Bush beans will go in the ground in about a week or two, gotta check the schedule on those. A friend is giving me some of her onion sets, and I plan to put in some carrots too.

But, the big daddy, the cash (barter?) crop to end all cash crops, TOBACCO just got started in seed trays this afternoon. If even 1/10th of them sprout and survive transplanting I may need to lease some garden space. I'd thought of growing it last year, but by the time I got around to it, it was too late. There is NO WAY I'm going to pay $50 a carton for cigs., I've started rolling my own already. They taste better, they're not that "fire safe" crap they make you buy now, and I don't seem to smoke as many of them. LIfe is GOOD!

They can have my home grown produce when they pry it from my cold-dead hands!

I think they'll find some really vocal opposition to that turdislation. It would effectively shut down natural food co-ops, and the people involved in that sort of thing are well versed in how to organize a protest. (Now if only they'd shave thier legs, ditch the petuli oil, and use deodorant)

We too are planting a garden this year. Nothing too big...maybe 20 square feet or so for starters. We live in the Madison, WI area so we are not quite ready to plant yet, but we did get the initial yardwork done this weekend (that was fun) to prep the area. I'm looking forward to some home grown veggies.

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.
