Hi all-

Unsolicited advice to all Precious metal coin buyers-
If you're buying a certain country's coins because you love it, I say go for it. If you're buying foreign gold in case of TSHTF, my firsthand advice is DON'T!

I'm trying to sell some foreign gold coins and it's been nothing but grief! Finally moved them, but I can see how this situation could be really ugly if SHTF and you needed the money ASAP.

At least that's the experiences around by me.

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.

I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win.

I dunno, but everyone I know will only really deal with AGE, and some maples. Anything else, consider it less desired.

I suppose it can be tough to sell to inexperienced buyers, but most of the major bullion coins...

Age, Gml, Krugerrands, Pandas, Nuggets, Sovereigns, Phils etc. shouldn't be that tough.

These are the 6 I stick to for the most part.

Good thing I dont think SHTF scenario will ever really come to fruition. Life may get tougher for a bit, but all hell will never break loose IMO.

The venerable Gold Krugerrand seems to be doing ok on Ebay as is the Austrian Philharmonic. I think most of the sovereign coins are fine even though the AGE is selling at more of a premium.

I'll be honest; I actually picked up a Krugerrand because it was always the coin being stolen by the bad guys in those 70s crime dramas like Charlie's Angels and Cannon. Of course that was the only gold coin being minted at that time.

Australia (lunar series & kangaroos), Austria (coronas, ducats, philharmonics), Canada (maple leafs), China (pandas), GB (soverigns), Mexico (2 pesos, 2 and a half pesos, 50 pesos) , Netherlands (ducats and guildens), South Africa (krugerrands) and Switzerland (20 francs) are countries with commonly circulated gold coins. I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of these.

I hate to hear you had trouble. Post 'em here next time! (Or PM me. )

I agree. Krugerrands seem to be fetching very similar premiums to Eagles etc on Ebay through You must be logged in to see this link.

Krugerrands first came to my attention when I saw the bad guys moving them in Leathal Weapon II
