Hello, I am fairy new to the forum, but I have been lurking around for a while.
Recently, I told my father, who lives in a different locale, about my new hobby of coin sorting. He asked me what coins I was a looking for and I gave him a brief rundown. On his next trip to the local bank he asked for two rolls of halves with change. Once he got him he promptly sorted it and was disappointed not to find any 90% or 40% coins. I told him I would have been shocked if he found any silver as the chances of finding silver are very slim.
He decided to rewrap one of the rolls and take it back to a different bank branch while doing his regular banking. (Don't worry I told him about dumping etiquette but his quantity was small.) When my father gave the roll to the teller she offered him 20 dollars for it. He told her she must be mistaken that value of the roll is only 10 dollars and that is the amount he would accept. My father notices that the teller but the roll to the side instead of taking it to the coin counting machine.
When my father told me the story I laughed and informed him that either the teller was a sorter herself or another hoarder comes by the bank and asks for all the CWR and pays the tellers a premium.
I thought this was an interesting occurrence. Has this happened to anyone else?

| No, but it looks like you may hook your father into sorting as well. |
"Rich," the Old Man said dreamily, "is not baying after what you can't have. Rich is having the time to do what you want to do. Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

| Maybe a slightly less experienced teller. Was probably thinking Quarters = $10 so halves must be $20. |

| Aaron, that is what my father was thinking, but he noticed she put the roll to the side. Anyways, I thought it was amusing. |

| Weird. I would have him go out and get as many halves as he could and rewrap 'em, just for her. |

Welcome to the forum! Glad to see that you are your father are both fellow sorters. Im glad that your father is an honest person and set the teller straight. You will be amazed that some tellers dont even know what a half dollar is or that it is worth 50 cents. |

| Thanks for the welcome. I think it is a shame that the half dollar and dollar coins are not used in circulation. |

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |
