I am charged $5 a box (brinks)at USBank, where I dump everything. Some other banks charge me $5 or less, one wanted $10 per box for Loomis (might be worth it, they are good). Other banks charge me monthly, passing on the direct charge from the armoured carrier...around $3 per box.
The vault teller is the one you need to butter up, she orders. If she claims that they can't order coin, ask who sets policy and see them. Most banks are OK with me going with the teller into the coin cage and lifting the boxes or bags myself..small towns mostly. So the story of the bank being charged is true around here, the rest of the stories??? Call BS on them

Sometimes I use US Bank to dump. Never a problem or a fee. Sounds like you need to try and find a new bank.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Ahh, indeed. Well, I would have preferred it the first way. Second, correct, way is more understandable. Oh well...

As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

My guess is that is a clause to keep them from having to take money that is clearly sketchy drug money, like if some Scarface looking dude walks in with a duffle-bag full of 100s.

And he that hath lyberte ought to kepe hit wel / For nothyng is better than lyberte / For lyberte shold not be wel sold for alle the gold and syluer of all the world.

I would love to see everyone's reaction to that though.

Love the comments here! I am one of the most experienced members at getting cut off from banks.. lol. I have learned a lot over the last few years. There are lots of banks, and you need to spread your action around. Become the tellers' friend by being the guy that will pick up all those customer wrapped rolls that folks keep turning in. They call me all the time.

It is not true that they will always treat you right just because you have a big balance. One bank mistreats me even though I maintain the corporate account with 7 figures in it. They just don't want to deal with coin. I deposited 10 small dollars there yesterday just for fun. Maybe next time I will drop off half dollars. Sometimes dump banks select themselves. One bank that used to order regularly for me cut me off. Now they are my primary dump bank. I already have accounts at some new banks that I have hardly tapped.. kind of like when spammers register here and lay dormant for several months before posting. I have never paid any fees for receiving or dumping coins, but if one of my banks were to get some nice new shiny log cabin pennies I think I would be willing to kick them some fees. Be patient.. bank managers and bank names change over time.. then you get to start a new game.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

A "game" it is! Do your homework and shop around. Open multiple accounts. Be nice and friendly. Be considerate and courteous. Never pay fees. If you get a "no" in some form, just move on.

Interesting ideas! An, yes, touting an old WWE phrase: "It’s Time To Play The Game!"

What works in one area of the country might not work in another. Also, I think all this depends on the size of your city or town and the number of banks available in your area as to how you will be treated.

Surely the economy will cause all banks to look toward ways to cutting cost. Most executives at the banks probably have spent very little time recently at the teller line and probably don't think twice when coin is ordered assuming incorrectly that this is just a cost of doing business. Also, you have to admit there can't be but so many of us that go in and order $1000's of dollars in pennies per order or thousands in halves etc.

No doubt however it is a game! How you are dressed, how you talk, if you are smiling and making eyes contact. If I am dressed in a suit and place a $100 on the counter very little eyebrows are raised when asking for a single box of pennies. I play the part, they play theirs.

If you walk in and look like you are stealing a cookie out of a cookie jar that are going to call you on it for sure. You have to know tellers are some of the best face readers around.

At my regular dump bank I like to say I'm making a deposit and hand over large bags of candy and then tell them if they ever get any heat I will gladly pay fees for handling all the coin. Also I’ve offered to buy the plastic bags I use to bring back coin that they give me for free.

They always smile and say. It is ok. In short, I let them know I got their back and they watch out for mine. I also have given them a framed set of replica bills that they proudly have hung by the vault.

At one pick up bank I use I have even provided a cart that they needed in the vault. The bank was too cheap to buy one!

Am I crazy, maybe? But have I been cut off yet? Nope! Class dismissed…..
