I called my regular bank. Asked if she could order halves. She said she would call and find out. Called back 15 minutes later. She ordered me a box. This is wonderful. This is the bank I do my regular business with and it is 1/2 mile from my house. And the dump bank is across the street.

Speaking of dump banks. I was chatting with the regular 2 tellers that switch out the bags this morning. I told them that I woould not have to bother them again cause I only had about 148.00 in pennies today. They said the didn't care cause they switch bags out all day long.

Its always a good thing to have a good source bank and an even better dump bank.

Time to buy some chocolate and keep em happy.

Yes bring some cookies in once in awhile. I do about ever 6 weeks and it seems to keep them happy.

By the way all banks I have ordered from always had to order a mininum of 2 at a time... So they probably have 2 boxes, not 1...

The only bank I know of in my area that does that is TCF. I was told they have to order coins in $1000 increments.

Definitely check into it, they didn't volunteer this info to me at first. It wasn't until the next week they asked if I would be interested in another box that they happened to have in the vault.

I think you will enjoy half sorting. You may want to get a half folder and start a collection. That way, even if you get skunked on silver, you can still be looking for better quality halves for your collection.

Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

I will find out Tuesday what came in. I have a good thing going with my bank. It helps to have muliple accts and being friends with one of the customer service girls. If they had 10 boxes that would be great. That would be 2 for each business day. Buy, search , dump....repeat. They are currantly using a red radio flyer wagon for their vault. They had $500.00 in pennies stacked in it waiting for me. The poor thing was about to break. I have a cart/dolly from Home Depot. Hold 500lbs. Less than $70.00. I think I need to buy one and donate it to the bank.

Cookies...........I have an order of girl scouts coming. Might have to drop off a few boxes. And I have some chocolate candy bars to sell for my 5 year old daughters school. Gonna have to buy some of them to give away too. I hope I don't make them fat.

You're giving extremely good advice. Make friends with your tellers. Good things come from it!

Small moving dollie- catch on sale at Harbor Freight $10
Handle for moving dollie- " " 10
Pepsi Crate free
This lil hotrod has moved over a million in coin and more than paid for itself many times over. It will hold 7 boxes of halves or 15 boxes of dimes. Only drawback is all the wheels swivel so keep in mind when steering. HH Mark

The homemade dolly is a good idea. I don't think it would work for me as I usually have 20-30 penny boxes to pick up. I order from two banks. Same bank but 2 different branches. One in S.C. and one in N.C. 15 minutes apart. One orders from the Fed one orders from Brinks. My main one in S.C. is using the wagon. The one in N.C. has a cart and the head teller loads it and brings it out to my van. They are cool and are friends with some of my friends.

Stopping in banks you pass everyday is a good way to find new sources. I have one beside our post office.Picked up 6 40% halves out of only $18.00 they had. They actually told me to keep stopping in. So a week later I stopped in. They had one 1968 40% half waiting for me. They asked what dates I wanted the 1st time I was in and are now on the lookout for me.

Then you get the "I don't have time for you" banks/tellers. I just take them off my routine only stopping in if they are not busy and I have not visited in awhile.

I try talking to the younger tellers. They are usually nicer and I have noticed that alot of them tell me that their grandfather collects coins too.

Just remember to always be nice. Thank them for their time. Remember the ones that helped you the most. Compliment them. Bring treats. And don't be a burden.

Agreed about the size. Last year when I was picking up 6K at a time I got the large moving dollie and put slats accross for a floor- I think I picked it up for $15 on sale, handle was still $10. I leave it at the bank although it looks anemic now when they wheel it out with only 3K on it. Works good though and saves the tellers from thrashing their roller chairs LOL.

I got my 1st box of halves yesterday. Not 1 single silver or proof. I got skunked on my first box. I guess it is time to order more and hope my luck improves.

Slickeast, its to early to tell but you may or may not live in an area where the halves are saturated with non-silver. I live in an area where the halves that are ordered through the bank, rarely have much pay off. Most of my hoard (such as it is) came from CWRS (customer wrapped rolls) that people turned into the bank. But like I say, its to early to tell and you might be in a good area and the first box was just a fluke. Good luck.
