Last week the Ultra High Relief Double Eagle Gold Coin was introduced by the US Mint: You must be logged in to see this link.
They limited your order to one per household. The one ounce coin was not cheap costing $1189.00 plus $4.95 for shipping for a total of $1193.95 which will be charged when they shipped the coin much later. I have yet to hear what the mintage might be.
Interestingly, however, they would allow you to place additional orders and ship the coin to separate addresses and still pay for the coin under one name.
After that first wave of orders the mint website now says: "Product is temporarily unavailable for product repricing." "Available: January 29, 2009 at 8:00AM (ET)" So, what say you? Is it all hype or is it a good buy?

| I dunno, they haven't even placed a scheduled date for the PROOF ASE, nor do they have the 2009 ASE for sell on their site. |
Trolling is an art. |

| I've been looking at that since it came out trying to figure out the same thing. That's a mighty steep premium. |

I agree it is a steep premium however I also had someone offer me $25 over what I paid for it, whenever I receive it. So at least one person thinks it is going to be hot!
Here is another article on the coin. In the Midst of Recession, U.S. Mint Releases $1,000 Coin You must be logged in to see this link.

They're already selling on ebay for a decent premium, but sometimes, those premiums disappear after a short time. I'm still on the fence. Problem is, I really do want one, but for $25 more I can get an MS 63 genuine St.G from the 1920's. |

I agree On Both statements... Ebay was selling box's of 2008 cents last year for 115 or more dollars and it slowly crept down...It may be a hot item but there is no mintage limit.. They said they would make them until demand stopped even if they had to go into next year...I would like to have one also but i would rather buy an original St Gaudens for that Price.. They also did say they would change the prices weekly going on the fluctuation of gold... |

Well I got screwed! The U.S. Mint canceled orders sent to different households even through it said one per household because I paid for it all even thought the orders were done separately.
Now the new price is $1239 plus $4.95 for shipping i.e. $50 more than last week!
Also, they are saying shipping time is six to nine months. UGH! They can forget it.....
