I just peeked through the Red Book and without doing any math at all, it looks like there might have been 80-100 billions copper pennies made. What percent do you think are left in circulation? Above 90%? About 50%? I'd like to just know your educated guesses. Thanks.

I don't know how many are left but as I am getting to the point where I am getting about as many stacked up in my basement as I want to I hope what is left in circulation will disappear quickly because once they do the ones I have will go up in value much quicker.

Approx. 430,563,879,400 pennies were made from 1909 to today
Approx. 200,035,000,000 pennies are currently in circulation today
Approx. 230,528,879,400 pennies have either been retired, collected, or lost

25.6 Billion Wheat pennies were made, Approx. 800 million remain in circulation
149.4 Billion coppers made between 59'-82'
255.5 Billion Zincs made between 82'-07'

Based on the average 25% copper per box, I estimate 50.8 billion 09'-82' coppers remain in circulation.
98.6 Billion coppers 59'-82' have either been hoarded, lost, or retired.

So, out of the original 175 Billion Coppers 09'-82'only 50.8 Billion remain in circulation, or approximately 29.0%

This is just an educated guess though

Thanks for all that math.

98.6 Billion hoarded........hummmmm......I might know where most of those are but I ain't giving out any names.

50.8 Billion + 152.4 billion zincs.......that is based on 25% copper per box

203.2 Billion coins to sort through.

203.2 Billion pennies + 1 Ryedale (18000 per hour) = 11288889 hours or 470370 days or 1288 years.

That is running 24/7. No Jams, constant feed.

Someone check my math.

The answer.. multiple Ryedales!

And hoard zincs!

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

You also have to figure how many were melted in WWII...
