I like the idea of running ads to purchase the silver from people. There is only one dealer in DC itself and his prices are a little high, but not unreasonable. I try and avoid Craigs list but I will look into some other free advertising. Maybe hit up some of the local tellers at the banks I go to frequently. If I deal in small quantiies that most people probably wouldn't bother taking to a coin dealer even if they could find one, I might be able to find a niche market. Any thoughts?

I have been searching rolls for a while and have a bunch of pennies and a handfull of silver halves and nickels. Alot of time invested and not much return thus far.

Do any of you guys sell your silver finds?

searching4silver. Have you taken a look at Monarch Precious Metals? Some of their 10z bars were selling on ebay in the low 130s in recent days. They do charge 5.95 or 6.95 for shipping including insurance. I bought my 10 oz bar directly from them using a $5.00 discount code, which offset most of the shipping charge.

I couldn't agree more, Computer Jones. Each war nickel has $0.69 of silver in it. The war nickel has the highest percentage (1389.71 %) ($0.69) silver value/(5c) denomination of any circulated US coin containing silver listed at coinflation.com.

I'm more on windage's side. Seller too dumb to look up market value and agrees on lower price? deal is a deal.

Not to mention windage has to do legwork, meeting with people, taking the risk of fakes, potentially shady customers, flakers, etc. Most of these issues can be resolved, but it does take effort. He's just prospecting in a different way.

Just picked up 120.00 face at 9.5X pretty decent price under melt value. One thing I dislike are those bottom feeders out there trying to take advantage of people by severly low balling them. There ought to be a law out there against that! Everyone loves a good deal, but completely ripping people and taking advantage of them is just plain dishonest. One guy was offering 7X face for 90%, geeze not to hard to beat his price especially since silver can be sold right now at 10.5! Just my thoughts.
I just heard from a very trusted source that an investment group has dumped a couple thousand bags($1000 face) of 90% silver coin on to the open market. 90% had been enjoying a nice premium recently ($1-2 over spot per oz) but in light of recent offering this premium has disappeared. As early as Thursday the major buyers had been offering buy prices at 10X face. Now they are selling at 9.7x face even in light of a recent silver run up (up 15% in two weeks). This seemed like useful information for GIM faithful. I figure that would make this a pretty ripe time to back up the truck and help absorb this excess. Any thoughts on this?
Seen this posted elsewhere FWIW. It explains the evaporating premium. A couple thousand bags is A LOT of junk silver. Seems like over the coming weeks may be a good time to buy silver, perhaps at a discount to spot as this supply is absorbed into the market. Maybe even as cheap as 9x face?
