I know 90% is about 10X face but what is the going price for .999? My Buddy was talking to one of the larger dealers in our area at the fun Convention and he said he was paying $.35 over spot for 1,000 bars. That seems like a great deal but the $11K price each would be hurtful. The cheapest rolls of AE's were 340 a roll s well. Thanks as always

Hi there-
I like using ebay's "completed listing" function to check past prices.
It seems that even Generic .999 silver is going about $13-$14 oz.

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.
I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win. |

I've bought and sold quite a bit of silver. I don't do American Eagles because I hate premiums. Same thing with Maple Leaves, and the ultra premium stuff. Beautiful stuff and if I ever see it near spot I scoop it up without a doubt.
Here in michigan I can buy rounds at 2.50 over spot. Used to buy it at spot.
I used to buy only sealed Engelhard and Johnson Matthey 1oz and 10oz bars. I still do when I can find them cheap. They bring a huge resale premium on ebay.
Best feasable way to buy silver in my opinion is 100 ounce bars. 1 buck over spot shouldn't be too hard to achieve. 1000 ounce bars are heavy and not as liquid. Some will argue that point but not as easy to liquidate in an emergency.
As "Wags" said = ebay is a very good guide to go by.(on most things) Ebay sellers usually make back their fees in the shipping charges. I'd say generally 2.50 over spot is a pretty good avg for common silver rounds.
Feel free to PM me if you are looking for some venues to buy silver.
Also if you are looking to buy it online from the big vendors make sure to talk to a live person and ask about physical delivery delays or timeframe. There are lots of horror stories about not receiving bullion for months.

About how large is a 100 ounce bar? |
"Rich," the Old Man said dreamily, "is not baying after what you can't have. Rich is having the time to do what you want to do. Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

I'm buying large bars if I can get more silver for my money. Given a choice for the same price I would buy rounds or silver eagles of course. I can't see paying up to 20% more for rounds now. To me the name of the game is to get your hands on as much silver as you can. I may start to buy Franklin mint sterling silver bars .925 at or below spot price.

TenBears. A typical 100 ounce bar is about 8x4x1 inches. Still very compact and fine for safety deposit box, safe, or other location. |

Ardent Listener. I think you have a good idea there. These coin shops are buying flatware, sterling silver stuff for a reason. At the end of the day it's still pretty pure silver. I'd be interested in purchasing some of that in the future. Spot or below is always a deal in my book.
I think we are on the verge of a silver outbreak. Poor mans gold and most people can still afford to hoard away several ounces. In my opinion when the dollar becomes nothing more than a piece of paper with no value Silver and Gold will rule the world like they did in the beginning. |
