This part jumped out of me last night when I was watching the History Channel's Modern Marvels copper episode:

"We’re in no danger of running out of copper. Known resources are estimated at nearly 8.1 trillion pounds, of which only about .75 trillion pounds, or less than 10%, have been mined."

You suppose if costs for extracting copper go up, that our 95% pure pennies will be a huge hit?

It only gets more expensive to extract copper. With environmental laws, reclaimation, oil prices fluctuating, labor costs, etc. Our pennies are dirt cheap :-)

I've done some contracting at Phelps Dodge out in AZ.
They pull a lot of copper out of those hills - ever since 1896.
It takes a lot of ore to get a little copper!

Beer is my currency.
