Hi Everyone,
I recently bought a ryedale and as soon as it gets here Im going to be sorting as many pennies as I can. My question is whats the best way to store your copper?
I only have like $100 FV worth of copper right now (from hand sorting) and I just have it in 2 canvas bags. This works out nice but I only have so many canvas bags...
Do you reccomend canvas bags, or buckets, or barrels or what?

I reuse the boxes the pennies came in. They are free, available and it keeps them out of the landfill. Plus they stack nice and individually, can be stashed most anywhere. I can get about $23 back in loose.

| I re-roll mine and pack them back in bank boxes. Takes a little work, but makes storage very convenient. Also allows you to take quick inventory and everything is pre-counted for future transactions. |

I can fit $20 in a brinks box. (use my counter)
Recently what I started doing was putting them in some left over fedex tyvek envelopes that I found in a closet from 02! The sticky doesnt work good, so I couldnt use them for shipping |

If you have the bigger boxes, not the brinks boxes, 23 is possible.
At first I was going to use these boxes and do $25/box, then I realized that I couldnt get my hands on enough of them. So I went with $20 in a brinks box. They weigh 13.8lbs each. |

As far as the Ryedale goes, awesome acquisition and welcome to the owners club. I hope you have quite a bit of reserve set aside waiting for it. It has a huge appetite. Better get to roll cracking. Store your coppers at my place. They will be safe for sure. PM me for my address....

Thanks! Im proud to be apart of the owners club. Yes, I am working on my reserve and hope to be able to keep the machine busy as possible!

I think the price I figure those at is about 50-55 cents each. It can get kind of expensive storing them that way. You can sometimes get these bags free from your banks. Sometimes you can get the Canvas bank bags free from your banks also.
The bags I use are the ones the mint originally ships coins out in. They are very heavy duty blue and white reinforced canvas/tyvek. Each bag holds 300,000 to 400,000 pennies. |

Yes, the price varies depending on how many lots of 100 you buy.
Where do you get the heavy duty blue and white bags? I have never seen these or heard of these before. Have any pictures?

Yes, 46 rolls, it does take a litle jiggling and shaking, but they do fit in a Brinks box without bowing the sides out.

Im told that the plastic in the milk jug will start to weaken after a year or so. Have you had your coins in there for long? |

I started using milk jugs about 5 years ago when I broke a Mason jar I was using.
No probs so far (knocking wood!!!). |

Milk jugs can degrade over time and become brittle. They are also not completely air tight. The #2 PETE plastic (look at the recycling logo on the bottom) containers are non-pourous and a lot less brittle. I use 1/2 gallon juice jugs. Each jug holds about 16# of pennies and I estimate about $25 face value.
I have an endless supply of empty 15 and 55 gallon plastic drums. I am thinking about using the 15 gal to store my pennies. |

I heard there were already too many being stored in Northern Indiana.
Sometimes I roll them up with the machines, put custom COPPER CENTS labels on them and store them in those red alumimum trays you see at the bank. I have lots of those trays. |
