OK I am tired of wasting time asking tellers for halves and large dollars and getting nothing. Here is my idea.

I will make business cards that say something like:

Coin Collector

buying pre-1965 silver coins, gold, wheat pennies
and other unusual coins and currency.

Any thoughts on this, or how I should word it?

I figure I should get some inquiries from either tellers who have found a few oddities over the years, or from customers who ask the teller what to do with old coins.

I figure I'll type them up on a computer and take a regular sheet of paper to Kinkos and have them print them on some card stock.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

Maybe something like this.

John Doe
-Coin Hobbyist-

Do you have coins that appear old or look like they may have some collector value? Possibly from pocket change, a collection, or a family member? Turn those coins into some extra cash. I am currently buying wheat pennies, silver US coins, Silver Bullion, paper money, and many other items. Please call 999-999-9999.

If anything else the teller will post it at their window by their calendar or other important pics, and goodies. Nothing like a good reference item. Would be great to post in grocery stores, etc. I'd put some simple dollar signs in each corner just for visual effect...lol.

I would make it as simple as possible....just your name and phone number with "Coin Collector" and images of different coins all over the background.

You can get 100 free business cards from Overnight Prints right now. Good company...I used them for my postcards and business cards.

You must be logged in to see this link.

If you use their design tools, there are lots of coin backgrounds under the "Financial" category.

I think as long as you keep it looking as a hobbyist/collector rather than anything business related you'll be all set. Simple is fine but this day in age it never hurts to put a little personal touch on things. Heck I'd offer a referral program..lol.

goodcents, what I meant by simple was not too much text...people in general are lazy and won't read it all anyway.

I checked out the website referenced earlier to get my hands on the free 100 business cards. Free, of course, except for shipping. $13.04. More than the cost of the cards themselves! No thanks.

Didn't see that part...sorry. Might still be cheap for somebody though depending on location. Shipping to my area showed up as about $9.

No biggie. If I got enough, shipping would be free anyway. My dad helped me design the card, then when we saw that the shipping was too high, he said he'd put in the word to make me a few at his job. So, free is free is free.

you can buy business card paper. Its the size of a regular sheet of paper that is perforated. Or try going to your local print shop. (not kinkos) sometimes they will be able to make them for you cheap!

What's wrong with Kinkos?

I'm sure they have card stock. I have a paper cutter.

2 or 3 pieces of paper ought you yield 50-75 cards. That's plenty for now. Total investment 50 cents?

If they're anything like Staples print center, they charge an arm and a leg for something you can easily do on your home computer. I don't know though as we don't have any in this area.

Standard business cards are only 10 per 8.5" x 11" sheet. I have a whole box of perforated business card paper that only cost a few bucks. If you only need a few sheets it's probably not worth it though.

We used to print business cards too. Still have some paper left over, but a local print shop guy gave us a great deal.

I have a color laser printer and cardstock at home. I am willing to contract out my services as a very limited short-run print shop to forum members. PM me if interested.

Color lasers do a nice job printing. I bought one about 3 years ago. Toner isn't cheap, but one set lasts me almost a year.

Nates advertising looks much better in real life then in that photo. Real class act. I got a postcard in my mail from him today - and shipped a bunch of coins to him too :)

I did mine on a word processor and had kinko's copy onto colored typing paper - 10 cents a sheet, or a penny a card. 30 cents a sheet to put on card stock.

if anyone's looking for free business cards, check out VistaPrint.

You must be logged in to see this link.

I've ordered the free cards from them multiple times.

You get 250 cards for free, and it's $5.25 for S&H.

They may have changed the rate since I've ordered, but I'm too lazy to check it and see. One catch, they print a small text add for themselves on the back of each card. I think it's $20 for 250 cards without the add.

If your being serious, you should really stop and think. Almost every bank employee has a relative, friend, neighbor that collects coins. Usually as soon as someone finds out someone works in a bank, the first thing they do is ask for them to watch out for coins. And they all usually do. You asking a teller that you don't know personally to look for something for you is really a waste of time as a general rule. And even some banks have policies that a teller can not put coins aside for any reason pending dismissal.
Remember the tellers drawer must balance out at the end of their time at work. Reaching into a pocket or purse for money to replace something placed on the side is also not a real smart thing in a bank.
Around me it is becoming difficult to get rolls of coins from tellers that have known me for 10 or more years. Banks everywhere are clamping down on coin collectors desires.
