for a teenager you have some mad carpentry skills. Can you help me out sometime with wood projects?

Looks good! Makes me want to dig out the coin comparator I bought last spring...

How well does it work?

Not too bad. Only problem I see is that the small size cups would fill up in no time. Other than that, okay by me.

no problems with the bottle or coins coming out too fast/too slow? Do you have to shake the thing? I'm curious to see the video when it comes out.

I really want to know if it does anything other than pennies, like dimes, quarters?

how's it work? Was the discriminator modified? Looks like a fine job brother.

It works great...but the cups are small but you only have to change the right one because the left one is the copper and not getting to much luck on percents right now. Most post a video tonight but it won't have sound because my speaker broke.

Completely agree, obviously an above average teen, good mechanical/electrical ability as well as sense to understand cents.

Good job sportsdude1325....impressive.

Awesome use of cornerbead.

Now you just have to figure out a way to supply the cornerbead with pennies. Perhaps a hopper powered by a drill. Something circular with slots only deep enough to hold a single penny that with a hole at the top that drops the penny into the 2-liter bottleneck.

nice work. I am looking to duplicate this based on your design. Just a few questions?

1) How much did you spend total?

2) What are you using for a power supply?

3) Are those peices of an old erector set used to mount the comparitor?

Great job, a simple and effective machine. Now all you need is to come up with a wheel to dispense pennies from the hopper one at a time.

I do not know how the comparators work, but I would be very interested to see if it can tell the difference between silver and clad dimes.

This particular comparitor (and most in general) have a tough time differentiating copper-clad from silver. (similar to the IHC's and Zincoln's).

I believe the experience with the ryedale which uses a similar comparator is that you get a "concentrate" (to use Andy's words) that would contain most of the silver and about 10% of the clad. That's a lot effort for a couple silver dimes and not knowing how many you let slip by.

searching4silver....I spend $23 on the comparitor and about $11 dollars for the power stuff and about $3 on other stuff like the harness and the metal corner thing and the rest was all at my house. Also to power it i went to a electronic warehouse place like a little shop with tons of old electronic junk and bought a harness thing that fit on the bottom two pins. I connect the wire to a electroic car cicgrat lighter and plug it into a old 12volt AC thing with a cicrigt lighter hole on the other side.

And yes that is a old erector set used to mount it to the wood because there is a little motor thing in the back so it can't go straight on.

FYI: If you are building one of these, you can get a "free" wire harness off of an old junk PC. The easiest harness to use is a two wire harness typically used to power an LED (like the power on light). Just solder the harness to the exposed wires of a 12 volt power supply and you are good to go as long as you can manage to plug in your improvised harness into the positive and negative pins on the comparitor without reversing them.

By the way, nice sorter.

Let me add my kudos to the mix!

Great job!

I also bought a comparator last Spring and never "got-around-to" doing anything with it.
