lol zincoln in the halves!
I just went through two boxes and have pretty much figured that the coin delivery service used by the two banks where I can currently get boxes have a shared pool from which coins are drawn.
Anyway, glad to hear about your great box Country. You were due.
I just had two skunk boxes with a single NIFC and nothing else except a nickel in one of the rolls and at least one shorted roll.
Lost a buck on that one.
No complaints here. My fortunes have been good.

$500 Halves - Brinks Box
I've often said that great boxes come in pairs from one great bag. My last half box was a good one, but this box is even better!
It appears that I got the entire bag in my weekly half boxes. These boxes were unusual in that many coins were tarnished and having a sticky feel from being in a FED bag for years. In addition to the SILVERs (many of the 1964s in both boxes were cameos), most of the clad coins were dated in the 1970's, 1980's, and early 1990s. I think the original FED bag which Brinks used to roll up the coins was sitting around in a vault for 15 to 20 years. Combining the two boxes, the FED bag had 88 silvers in it.

Best solution is to return them to a bank with a counter. Better solution is to rotate your dumps with bank branches that all have counters. Even better, dump in banks that use a different service company -> Source=Brink's bank, Dumps=Dunbar banks.
CARDINAL RULE: NEVER DUMP AT YOUR SOURCE BANK!
$2000 in halves is not a problem for most banks with counters. However, since you don't want to be cut off, don't dump too frequently at the very same branch. I use 9 bank branches with counters for my dumps and I visit each one of them once every two months on average. It's important not to dump too much at one branch. I suggest don't dump more than $3000 at any one branch. Be sure to help the teller ladies carrying the heavy coins.
The formula I use is the following:
($ dump amount) = ($ amount of halves/week)*(dump frequency in weeks)/(# dump bank branches)
For me that would be:
($3000)*8/9 = $2666
I need to average around this $ amount for my dumps to frequent all 9 dump bank branches every 8 weeks. So, sometimes I will dump $2000 or so and sometimes I will dump $3000. |

Country, nice haul.
I also think I got the "sister" box that connected from my great box the other day. Only from a different bank that uses the same service. All within the same week. The banks are in very close proximity and serviced by the same truck/driver. Bothe had the same ratio of great coins with other earmarks of being from the same bag.
When I only get one box now that has great stuff, I get nervous that the other is out there and with known competition at one of the branches, I have to stay vigilant.
Happy hunting!

Whoohoo.. somebody found silver in quarters! Congrats DumpsterDiver!
I got a phone call the other day from one of my banks. They said they had a few rolls of coins and would I like to pick them up Saturday or should they just ship them out. I of course said I would pick them up. So today I stopped by to pick them up. Turned out to be a little more than I expected. In addition to the $10 in pennies and $60 in nickels, they had $500 in dimes.
It doesn't take long to sort dimes.. just check the edge, drop them in the automatic coin roller and hit the button. These have already been processed and redeposited at one of my other banks. The nice thing is that I was able to pull 15 silver Roosies out of that batch.. a bit more than I'm used to. Almost like I got a visit from a Silver Elf. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

It sure seems to work that way, even down to things like 1968D being more common than 1967 in the first two boxes and the other way around in the next two.
I edge sort for silver and don't keep track of NIFC/proofs, but I do pull some of the shiny ones to see if I need them for the collection. The first two boxes had a remarkable number of 2005P and 2005D for some reason. |

Nice score 12 Khz! What's the composition on that HK dollar...never found one of those... That much silver in 4 boxes is a sweet sweet feeling!
Nice pick-up on the dimes Hoard...I'd do anything for a visit from the Silver Elf. In fact I'd take a visit from the assistant Silver Elf-I'm on a big Ag losing streak right now.
From reading Country's posts for the last year (even before I joined) I've learned it's just a numbers game with halves- long skunk dry spells with occasional big scores. You have to stay at it week in and week out. I'm due for a big box soon- I can feel it.

Wikipedia says 75% copper, 25% nickel. Here is their picture of the same kind of coin:
