Thanks for the team effort on getting things up to date, hopefully we can keep it going and keep things current.
With that said, my finds from today:
2 boxes ($1000) of halves.
Box 1:
Skunk (my very first skunk after about $15,500 in halves)
Box 2:
3x 40% (One being a 1976 S, wasn't sure if I should count it as 40% or Proof... I'm just going to count it as 40% since I feel silver is a bit more important than proof for these totals... that being said, was awesome to find this and made up for the skunk!)

holy sxxt, you guys are going to hate me. Ordered $2000 from a smaller bank. They have their own branded machine wrapped rolls (not the generic N.F strings. Popped open the 10 most promising looking rolls
Roll 1 - 15 silvers, 5 non
Roll 2 - 15 silvers, 5 non
Roll 3 - 14 silvers, 6 non
Roll 4 - 18 silvers, 2 non
Roll 5 - 13 silvers, 7 non
Roll 6 - 1 silver, 19 non
Roll 7 - 16 silvers, 4 non
Roll 8 - 2 silvers, 18 non
Roll 9 - 1 silver, 19 non
Roll 10 - 1 silver, 19 non
Totals were 2 walkers, 31 90% ken, 28 franks, 35 40%. These were recently wrapped too. There's a 2008 NIFC in the bunch.
Looks like there's a pretty good chance I'll break through the 200toz mark for the month of may.
Note: Please dont add these to the total. I probably wont post a final total found out of the $2000. I just couldnt help sharing. lol

Yep, definately a great score. That amount of silvers & proofs is impressive.
If I were you, I'd try and put orders in quickly. I've found that a number of times, silver tends to come in waves over multiple boxes. My theory is people dont deposit huge lots of coins at once. Instead, they kinda do it over a period of time. Half dollars are heavy to carry to the bank. Maybe a hundred here, hundred there. In addition, I think if someone deposits say 100 silvers, when the machine rolls them, it may get split into a couple boxes. This is part of the reason I like to order 4 boxes at a time. Increases the chances of capturing the entire silver lot.
The 2009 and proofs you found shows that someone was collecting up until very recently, and maybe because of the economy, decided to liquidate their collection for quick cash.
If you dont order right away, the machine may make other junk boxes, and those will sit on top of the the ones you want.

Ordering day was Friday - standing order for me is 3 boxes of halves a week. I can increase my order next week, but I won't get the halves until June 10. Last week I got some scummy heavily overmarked halves (some marked with an old communist monogram, hammer and cycle marked over Kennedy's bust ) in two out of the 3 boxes I got. So, it's off and on - sometimes I hit the silver vein, sometimes not. The head teller a couple months back told me that the coins were coming from a vault in West Virginia; that should be good I think.
How many boxes do you suggest I order?
I've gotton two boxes this month that were rich with silver, but this last box seemed to have everything in it, including plenty of NIFCs and proofs. My source bank uses Brinks. I dump discards into multiple Dunbar bank branches. That's my current strategy, unless I go on the road and visit some rural Virginia bank branches. |

it's not really rocket science though. On some other forums, the ones with the most success tend to have similar thinking/strategies that I employ.
An example.

Well, it's a hobby, so sort however many you're comfortable with. 3 boxes a week is a pretty good number already. If you know where the silvers are coming from, then it would be good to keep hitting that vault until its empty. See the quote in my above post.
Personally because the silver vein has been hot recently, I've been doing around $2k per day. I ran through $10k worth this week alone. I'm probably going to ratchet it down to $6k this week, becuase I'm having problems dumping it quickly enough. My half dumps are also causing problems with my pennies because it's hard to dump the zincs when you're also dumping enormous amounts of halves. |
