Got a crazy $500 bag from the bank today.
Tally was
30 40% 98 90% 5 Franklins 1 2007 NIFC 1 Aussie 20 cent coin (probably worthless)
I have a couple more bags at home, but I probably wont bother posting those after I look through them. Those look like they might be 10-20 per bag. |

Ha! It's all relative. When you're getting skunked like hell, even one 40% is WAY better than nothing.
While I'm posting, might as well post up the results of the other 3 batches while they're on my desk
#1
24 40% 5 90% 1 Franklin
#2
23 40% 3 90% 2 Franklin 1 1962 proof franklin 1 walker
#3 6 40% 1 90% 1 Franklin 1 bicentennial proof (40% silver)
About 7 NIFCs. 5 franc French coin (worthless) 1 pataca Macau coin (worthless)

Buyingsilvers,
The number of silver halves you find in bags is unbelieveable !! You must live in a rural area without much competition to come up with these great silver totals. Is there some advice you can give to the rest of us who only get a good box now and again? |

Yeah, the area is semi-urban and is dominated by local banks & cred unions. The banks here all have their own central vaults. So as I'm pulling from one bank and dumping in another, it doesn't contaminate my supply stream unless other prospectors pull my dumps and deposit it into my supply. This is as opposed to a situation where all the banks return coins to Brinks or the Fed where skunks might be continuously recycled.
And there are more than a few active prospectors in my area. My guess is that the reason I have a lot of success is that I simply out-volume everyone else. If other prospectors are picking up in $200- $500 batches at my dump bank, there's no way they'll outpace someone dumping thousands weekly. So unless they happen to be gettign halves at my supply bank, they're going to get rediculous amount of skunks.
At least here, since the halves just sit in the banks' central vaults, there's probably a few thousand in skunks that sit on the top of the silver and just circulate among prospectors. I used to get skunked HARD at my current supply bank, but I dug beneath all the skunk crap. My guess is that the current silver bags I'm pulling are the result of someone dumping a stash at a credit union somewhere. The cred unions dont maintain their own vaults (too small) and send the coinage from their counters to be processed and stored at one of the other regional banks central vaults. I completely drained one bank, which is now my dump bank, and am currently working on the 2nd bank. There's 2-3 other central bank vaults in my area that I'm aware of. 2 of them are harder to access for halves, but not impossible.
There's other really rural areas where I've asked family members or friends to grab samples of halves for me. There was a lot of silver in those samples as well. If I had the time, I'd road trip around and buy up everything I could get my hands on.
Hope this helps! |

I get the Brinks boxes. I am averaging about 5 silver (90% and 40%) halves a Brinks box. My best Brinks box this year had 45 silvers in it. I've had SKUNKS too . If you don't know it already, please dump the coins you get from your order bank at another branch. That keeps everyone happy ; including you. |

I also had another question, what do you all store your halves in? i was thinking about getting those plastic tubes but can only find them on ebay and prices just seem a little to high for my liking. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. |
