Care to be the "Keeper of the List" by sharing and updating the spreadsheet once a month? Perhaps we could use Google Docs? Just an idea. :) |
As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

Not a bad idea...
I have the spreadsheet up at You must be logged in to see this link.. Rather than depend on one person for maintenance, I took this one step farther and made it all nice and open. Currently anyone can edit; feel free of course to update current totals but also, for example, to add "One Every" lines for proofs, add categories for Bens, Walkers, and Barbers, add pennies with Indian Head stats, pore through the 2008 thread and do retroactive totals, etc. Just don't get too carried away on any one thing, especially formatting and colors.
If there is a problem with vandalism it will be locked down. Only add to the spreadsheet once there has been a post; the spreadsheet should not substitute for posts. If anyone takes it upon themselves to add their results to the spreadsheet be sure to specify in your post, so that we avoid adding the same data twice.
Comments and suggestions welcome.

I got a call from my bank teller today... they now want to charge me when I order coins. The pennies that I was getting were great! 30-35% coppers. The halves were no good... all skunks. I was ordering $1000 in halves, and $300 in pennies each week, and dumping at another bank.
They said that they have to charge all of their business accounts a fee when they order coins. I've been a customer there for 3 years, and this is the first that I've heard of this. I won't be ordering any more from them.

Do you ask to see the tray or is it visible enough where it usually is?
I always thought the trays were open like they were so that the tellers could easily rim check for silver as corporate policy, so I've never bothered checking in earnest. I guess not every bank does that; the fact that I got 1 silver out of 4 and 1 silver out of 1 loose halves from tellers in the same day would seem to refute that assumption. Has anyone here explicitly asked tellers about banks' "silver policy" (i.e. does the bank keep the silver for a profit, can the tellers buy them for themselves, can tellers hold them for people, etc) ? |

Hello All,
Today, I went to dump 600 half dollars at one of the bank branches I have not visited before. Before I made my dump, I asked the teller if she had any half dollars. She replied, "I have four rolls - $40 worth". Sure, I'll take them. They were old CWRs sealed with scotch tape. I didn't find any 90%ers, but out of 80 coins, 20 were 40%ers. (I wish I could keep that ratio on my $500 Brinks boxes.) Not bad for a quick stop at the bank.
$40 Halves - $10 40% silver clads. |

I have to fight the Manager at my main bank for the good stuff. I've bribed the tellers to not speak loudly but hold the Ag or $ilver Certificate for me. (Luckly the tellers at this branch think selling an Ike to them for $1 is a deal.) There are banks that definatly do sort! |
