Found my second IH. While searching a very bad box (no wheats, no Canadians, 3 to 6 coppers per roll)right at the bottom of the bowl was the 1891 IH. Very readable but quite smooth. Even though no in great condition glad IT was there. |

Ok the coolest thing just happened for me.
I got 2 boxes of pennies from the bank. Was sorting them during TV.
Found my 1st Indian Head Penny after doing this for a year and a half
1866 finally after all this time :) |

I took the coin in to my local coin store. He told me the 1866 Indian Head I found was worth about $30. Not a bad return on a penny investment. |

I'll have to put this up to the judges. I was dumping halves today and the coin counter filled. When the lady came over to change the bag and opened the door, 3 coins popped out onto the floor. They were stuck in the reject chute. I grabbed them up. One was a Mexican 10 peso, One was a '72 Canadian Quarter and the third was an 1863 indian head. My first this year and my third since I started sorting. |

fb101- since you didn't steal it or pay a premium for it; I'm counting it. Congrats I think that's the oldest find for the year. |

Okay, I'm a noob and have been sorting for about one week now. I'm 5 boxes in. This past Saturday, I raced to the bank before it closed, sheepishly asked for a couple of boxes, and raced home to get my hands dirty. I'm still at the point where I get excited about a wheat, but I was giddy when I came face to face with an 1888 IH. O don't understand how these things are in circulation. I've never run across one in change in my entire life, but then I get one out of a bank box. Whatever. Hopefully I'll run across some more as I try to figure out why I'm doing this and what exactly my game plan entails . . . |

OK, I've been hand sorting copper 7 months and I've never seen an IH until 2 days ago. Now I just found my second one. Another 07. Strange. |

Pulled a clipped 1886 IH from a bag of nickels I got at the bank today. Worth $0.01 now, if that at all. I did find three war nickels and about 8 pre-'81 Canadian nickels from the bag including a 1930 King. I miss finding wild Indians. Those were the simpler days. Now it is all about the metal, lol. |

On the profile side, the cut starts just below the 'UNITED' and clips the date just enough across to show what I think is the '86' of the 1886. It is definitely either an 1886 or 1896. Hard to tell, perhaps an 1896 but the '9' portion looks like it has a closed lower 'o', so hence I think it is an 1886. I will try to upload a photo. |

I'm giving up on finding one this year. Can I get an honorary membership into this years club if I post a pic of the civil war era token that I found? |
