Rep. Ron Paul, who was on Reagan's gold standard committee and ran for President as a Libertarian in 1988, is contemplating running for President again, this time as a Republican.
Paul is a big-time libertarian and was always big with the gold standard. They call him "Dr. No" because he was once a gynecologist and because he believes so much in states' rights that he votes no on pretty much everything.
According to every poll I've found, he gets about 1% of the vote, though about 12-15% are undecided. I'm sure most people haven't heard of him.
What do you think? Do you think he has a chance at winning the primaries?

There is little chance he will win. We live in a two party country and that will never change. Short of a meteor hitting the planet and starting everything from scratch. |

It depends on how much and how fast he can educate the sheeple about the issues. I would fear for his life if he looked like he might make it all the way.

Any man who chose Gynecology as his specialty gets my vote.

I'm a Liberal. I'm a recovering member of the Democratic Party, who has switched my alliegance to the Green Party.
Mr. Paul is the only Republican I would ever consider voting for (that I know of).
Ron Paul has some backing on the left. I've seen him refered to as one of the only honest congressmen on some very liberal websites. For example: You must be logged in to see this link. Kent lists Ron Paul among only seven congressmen that Kent considers to be honest. He is held in high regard on much of the left.
He has some backing on the left, and he has some backing on the right. He has backing from Libertarians. He is interesting and hard to categorize.
Does anyone here use namebase?

Namebase shows the closest link to Ron Paul as, The Foundation for Rational Economics Education. You must be logged in to see this link. That is noteworthy because namebase has a way of showing links that are hidden from the public (in plane site). In this case, I don't see any hidden links, that makes me slightly more sure that he is a real honest guy.
I would vote for Mr. Paul if he ran as an independant. If he ran as a Republican, I would be afraid that once in office, his party's apparatus would do things behind his back that would be unaware of.

IMO its hard to find a lot of fault with a libertarian candidate unless you are into controlling the lives of others or the libertarian candidate is extream and advocates open boarders and the end of all social saftey nets.
All in all though I feel we need someone like Dr. Paul at this time in our history.
