I have some AU franklin halves that I am going to put a listing for in BUY Sell.

Just curious what the market is. I could put together a roll of 1948-1963 for someone interested. I don't have near all the years/mintmark combinations. But a good selection.

ALso a couple 1955's for anyone intersted(though not in AU).

SO, anyone sold some like this? Thoughts on the market for them right now?

But can anyone respond to this comment:

Realcent user PM'd me with
"Those coins Greysheet for 9.5x face. That means SITE SEEN in full BU. You are offering site unseen coins and expecting a premium over Greysheet.
I gave you a fair offer. Check out Greysheet and you will see. Site Seen FULL BU is 9.5x face.
I'm sorry if I offended you."

But who of us 'hoarders' sell at greysheet Bid? We may try to buy at Greysheet bid, but not usually from each other.... ebay maybe, coin shows maybe...

What do any other 'coin collectors' think?
(for better reference to what he was responding to, read the postings in the Buy Sell forum)

I'm buying strictly for the silver, not for numismatic value. It's kind of like the old Starkist Tuna commercials: They didn't want tuna with good taste, they wanted tuna that tastes good. I don't want silver that looks good, I just think it's good if it's silver.

I've not been able to realize a numismatic premium on any coins for the last 3 three years at any of the coin shops I get to.
That includes the '09 VDB I tried to sell and the '77 rotational die error on a half as well as several other interesting coins I've found.

I'm in it strictly for PM value in the short haul, now's the time to buy not sell.
I figure any numismatic premium will be realized by my children or their children long after I'm worm food.

It looks like the best prices to be had are on EBay, but that's turned into a big hassle.
If you can wait, try to go to a coin show or try to sell on consignment at a coin shop?

I PM'ed you with an offer back when you first posted, it still stands.

There's profit if you melt things!!

I used to be a collector, now it's 99% bullion. Given the uncertainty of the future, I'd hate to spend big bucks on a coin and then have to dump it for food. So, for me it's bullion only until the future becomes clear. When the change came I was working on an UNC set of Franklins, which hasn't been added to in over a year, so for me it's bullion only.
Sorry. I said I was always tempted by Morgans, and I would still pay a premium for Morgans, but not a price I can pick up an ASE or other 1oz for. Right now, melt on a Morgan is $8.25, so I'm doing without.
I wish you the best of luck.

I have only tried selling a few pennies that were errors and I was given the price that my coin book said I should receive--$2.00 each for 1998 and/or 2000 "Wide AM". Sounds like I should consider myself fortunate.

Preserving the Past,
You did good!
I tried to sell some wide AM's and was offered $.03 (yep, three cents) at the only one of four shops in the Seattle - Tacoma area that considered buying it. The others didn't want to even talk to me about the coins.
Maybe I should send them to you and let you sell them for a 10% commission?
As it is right now, I plan to store them well, and hope those who come after me will reap the benefits of my efforts.

I would be happy to pay 9.5x for BU Franklins, but there are not a lot of sellers at that price. Greysheet is just tool, like any other tool.. coins can and do trade both below and above that price. If silver were to go really low, then there might be a slight premium for AU Franklins, but right now their bullion value exceeds thier numismatic value.

I remember seeing some mint sets in the past "greysheet" for less than face value. Of course there is a lot of work in cutting the coins out of the mint plastic.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

See, I'm a bigger collector than bullion hoarder. I have a large collection of MS63-65 Morgans. My prized possession is a MS64PL 1885CC Morgan. I understand the uncertainties of collectors items, but it is the "hobby of kings", so as long as people have some sort of money, there are bound to be buyers.

Unfortunately those are not a really big collectors coin. Yes there are may that collect them, but just not something that is easy to get rid of for a decent price. For example at a flea market I go to there is a dealer that tells me it is one of the hardest coins for him to sell. Another thing is the economy. Right now is not really a great time to sell coins.

Are you not trying to buy bullion (if you can find it) now before the flood of FRNs comes back and drowns us in worthless paper in a very short while? In other words, can you or any of the rest of us afford NOT to buy bullion (in addition to our other preps) right now?
