I stated a date only penny book a couple years ago. It all started when I was working at a gas station a few year ago and started pulling out all the wheats. I had a random penny book laying around so I started to fill in the dates. I didnt care about mint marks or anything so this is a date only book. ALL COINS have been found in the WILD!!!! Either in my change or while sorting pennies. When I find wheat cents I just through them into a jar and sort them later. Well I just got done sorting through the jar and almost finished my book! The collection is from all pennies 1909-2008! I have every year except 1909, 1912, 1913 and 1922! There arent any rare dates or mint marks or anything, but I think thats pretty darn good for getting them from the wild!

Very well done!
Keep up the good work and don't forget to look for Silver coins. Remember to look for the big mint mark on the back of nickles, they're keepers.
Are you going to start Penny book #2?

Yeah when I was working there I looked for silver coins too. I found only 1 war nickle though...but im not complaining!

No Im not gonna start Penny Book #2. Theres no real value in doing them (unless your going after mint marks and dates) The first one was just kinda a thing I started when I was first getting into coins

That's a mighty fine accomplishment. You really should consider doing another penny book from coins you find in the wild. Perhaps trying to get all mint marks, etc. this time.

Enjoy.

Not really. I have a book from 1909-1940 somewhat full just from sorting. I dont even really sort for wheats, but if I see one, I grab it. So, If I actually sorted for the wheats, I bet I'd have the book even more full.

So you have found a 1909s VDB and a 22D and a 31S and so on? The rest would just take awhile but those are the hardest... No one here (that i know of) has found an 09s vdb in the wild

I found a VDB in a $25 box. It was on it's way to be released. That's close enough to wild, ain't it? I've also found a '31'S in a box on it's way back to civilization.
I'm sure a cashier would have broken open the rolls and just might have passed them out if it was a busy time at the store.

I am still looking for my first 1909 of any variety. 4 indians, about a dozen 1910, and about 70 steel wheats this year, but no 1909. Yet!

It was actually in a very small baggie of wheat cents I bought.. about 30. I paid 3 cents for it.. not bad for an XF.. but does not qualify as finding one in the wild. Guess those must have been "unsearched" wheat cents.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.
