How do I get Dollars (Ikes, generally) from my Bank(s)?

I don't want them giving me the Presidential dollars or even Susan B's or Sac Dollars.

Also, if I go to the bank and ask for "all their dollars" and they pull out the above is it rude to say, "no not those" :)

Any ideas?

Just ask them to set aside any Ikes for you. Bring one in to show them. Offer them a small reward. They don't get many in anymore, but when they do it is usually someone cashing in their small hoard.

I ask, "do you have any large dollar coins or half dollars." I buy as many as I can. If they don't have either then I ask for $2 bills. Tell then they are great for gifts and tips. Which I do. They spend just like money, well if people know what they are.

I have found the more I cirulate the more other people circulate as well. Silver and Ikes are rare, but I keep it up.

Awake, O kings of the earth! Come ye, O, come ye, with your gold and your silver, to the help of my people, to the house of the daughters of Zion, to the help of the people of the God of this Land even Jesus Christ.

Good point. I try to spend as many halfs to put them in circulation. I figure less blank stares at the bank.

Like Ardent said, just bring an IKE into the bank and ask them if they have any of those.

Ask for "Big" dollars. Or take one with you.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

I always just ask for "Eisenhower Dollars". So far I've never had a teller not know what I was talking about. But as others have mentioned, taking an example with you is a good idea if that doesn't work for you.

I tried doing this. My bank didn't have any, so they called Dunbar (where they get coins from). They didn't have any either. Dunbar said they would call the Federal Reserve of NY (where they get coins from).

That was three weeks ago. I'm not holding my breath.

Like Deal said.. you ask for "Big Dollars" It's OK if they include a few Morgans and Peace dollars in the mix. You wouldn't want them to not give you the good stuff 'cause you only asked for Ikes.

I picked up 1000 of them at one of my banks today. They had 1800 on hand. They are going to hold the rest of them for me until next week when I can scrape up a little more cash.

I would sell them like misteroman for a small premium if anybody wanted to get a bunch.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

Maybe it's regional thing, but everytime I asked for big dollars I would get glazed over eyes and a blank stare from the tellers.

After asking for the Ikes, they almost always start volunteering the other dollars, halves, old bills and other old coins they have. At that point they are offering you, and you can pick and choose what you want.

Then if they didn't already offer, you can ask for the Peace and Morgans because they are now more often than not open and friendly, enjoying your coin collecting hobby vicariously and willing to be more accomodating.

That is, if the teller 2 windows over hasn't already scarfed them up for his or herself.

Bluegill is right. Once they know you are a collector and are on a friendly basis with you, you get offered all kinds of things. I was offered these dollars.. I hadn't asked for any of them in a month or so at this branch. It is always nice when they think of you when a huge hoard of dollars, half dollars or pennies come in. One way to really get on the tellers' good side that doesn't cost anything is to take the "small dollars" whenever they want to clear them out of their trays.. they will love you for it. Then you just spend them in your daily purchases. I spent 36 Suzy's the other day at the post office to pay my PO box rent. When the post office lady looked at me kind of funny I told her it was "karma."
