If the prices of commodities really do drop, now is the time to buy before the prices go up even faster. Keeping a few copper cents around is by far worth moe than the 1/2 percent intereset the bank offers.
I think the real issue that each of us should be thinking about is whether copper will soar as (hyper)inflation kicks in, or whether it will stagnate and remain below copper-cent face value. And if copper will stay below pennies' face value, is it worth hoarding them at the moment in lieu of other metals (especially silver, if you can find it) or other preps? I'm probably going to wait until inflation really starts to kick in before I go back to major penny-sorting since in that case the metal will be worth more than the coin insofar as fiat money is worth nothing in the first place. Once inflation starts to soar, I think all kinds of metal will be in high demand. It's happening in other countries right now:

This article really makes you stop and think what could happen here in America/Canada (Don't mean to exclude those of you that live elsewhere, but my one brain cell isn't moving fast enough today to remember all places represented on this forum.).
I want to say thanks to all of you that find such articles and post links to them here. You are really helping to keep my grey matter in motion.
Enjoy searching, everyone.

If you haven't yet seen all of the bills involved with your surgery, you might want to hold on to a pain pill or two for when they start hitting your mailbox.
Seriously, it's good to see that you are feeling better.
Enjoy searching. |

Heck no. This is treasure hunting to me. Perhaps small treasures, but still treasure. For instance, it is fun to find a silver nickel in a box, and really great fun to find Tatonka. I haven't searched pennies in a long while, but I am getting that urge again. Precious metal prices were never the primary driver for my sorting efforts. |
"Rich," the Old Man said dreamily, "is not baying after what you can't have. Rich is having the time to do what you want to do. Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

With the state of our fiat economy in the U.S.--especially the more than $7 trillion being added to the national debt with the financial and mortgage meltdowns--and the stage we're in relative to the probable end of the dollar, are you planning on changing course on precious metals?
EDIT: Or am I misreading what you're saying, and what you're implying is that you are buying PMs but it's separate from your coin sorting? |
