As many of you know I just got my dad into CRH. He has been on an unbelievable roll as of late. So far in less than $200 cashed in he has over $28 in 40% halves and $42.50 in 90% halves. I just spoke to him and he informed me that one of his banks has a $1,000 bag full of half dollars that has been sitting there for a very long time because they cannot circulate them or have any means to get rid of them. Which brings me to the next question...how often can you actually find $1,000 bags of halves in banks. I always hear of boxes from the Fed or Brinks but not bags full of nothing but halves.
Is it a rare find to find such a bag and what are the chances of hitting a mother lode if it is indeed rare to find these type of bags.

If you can find a bag that has been just sitting there, you ALWAYS buy it. Chances can be good that a nice score will come out of it. Not really rare to find banks with half bags, full or partial. He better jump on it.

Even if it is not a mint bag I'd say he has a high chance of finding tons of silver. He doesnt live anywhere within the 50 states (which leaves you the US territories) and with his current 35% silver ratio ($70 out of $200 searched) it leads me to believe that no one is searching for halves. He has already told me that many of the rolls he gets are $15 and $20 rolls |

He might even make really good friends at the bank by taking this bag off their hands. Then they will call him every time they get a large amount of coin in. What is he hesitating for? |

Sounds like a few of us here.
They love you even more if you take them off their hands still in the rolls |

I spoke to my dad just now and the bank informed him that they would have to charge him a fee to take the bag, in addition they told him the bag weighs exactly 50 lbs. Now how would they know the exact weight unless of course it says it on the bag or they actually went out of their way to weigh the bag for my dad. Highly unlikely that they went out of their way to weigh the bag.
The more I hear about this bag the more I think it is an original US Mint bag of pre-1965 coins. Probability is slim but even if it is customer dumps the chance of finding silver is very good since people where he lives at, are not into searching for coins like many in the states do.

Let me make sure I'm understanding this correctly. The bank has a bag of halves they are basically stuck with and can't get rid of because they can't send them back to the fed or circulate them.
A customer offers to buy them and get them out of their hair and allow them to free up vault space.
Now said bank feels they have to charge him, even though technically he is doing them a favor more than anything else.
Awesome customer service... Unfrickin'believable...

Yup but he's going to basically tell them look I am doing you a favor by taking it off your hands. Even if they dont budge I told him to suck it up and pay the small fee. The chances for a huge payoff are greater than worrying about a measly fee. Still its unbelieveable that the bank wants to charge a fee for him taking the bag. Ill find out next week what the bag yields |

I hope it's pure silver. That's what, almost $7K for $1K. Sounds good to me.

Very dissapointing results...2-90%ers and 4-40%ers. Needless to say my dad will be sticking to rolls from now on especially with a 30%+ find rate while searching rolls |
