Breath deeply, smile and move on. You just happened to be at the right place at the wrong time. Just wait until some teller refuses to sell that Ben or Walker that's gleaming at you from their tray! All that does is reassure me there's Ag out there to be found when you're at the correct place at the proper time! Instant Karma's gonna get you! In the end, you'll come out ahead if you strive to add positive energy to the Universe.

Question: Why do you collect Ikes? Is it just for the fun of it? Or do you feel they may be valuable some day?
I have about 30 or 40 of them that for some reason, I can't seem to part with. I think for me, it's just the curiosity factor. I don't think they'll ever be worth more than face value, unless copper skyrockets. |

Pennypincher, you hit the nail-on-the-head! "Face Value"! I've purchased Ikes from several great folks on this forum to give out as "tooth fairy" gifts. The dancing eyes and exciting look on their face getting such a big, shiny coin--now that's "face value". By the time they all get their permanent teeth I won't have 1 Ike left (they tried to sneak a dog tooth past me) but the return on my Ikes is priceless. copper cane |

You can also sell them for $1.10 to a dealer and sometimes $1.50 on ebay |

I collect Ikes because they are a reminder that the USofA used to make coins that size out of 90% Silver. The "curiosity factor", also, should not be underestimated!!! It helps that the Manager of my primary bank (as well as some tellers I've gotten to know over the years at my drive by banks) really like them and it greases the wheels when I "accidentally" leave one behind. They also are great to leave as tips. Numismaticly, they had a pretty short run and make a nice collection. They should be fun for my heirs to play with and, hopefully, remember me fondly when I'm worm food and they get to play choose what you want. When you get them at face, they should still be redeemable for a buck, there even is the chance to sell them at a profit. You can make better deals at flea markets and garage sales if you bring out a handful to haggle about prices. |
