Found this 2000 Lincoln in my latest box sort. Stuck out like a sore thumb. I am an admitted amateur, this is maybe my tenth box, but one of these kids is doing his own thing; any comments or theories appreciated:

Looks to me like a worn gold plated cent. I have come across several in several shades now. If it is the one in the center of the top photo.

By the way, I like that top photo, has kind of a warhol-ish quality to it :).

Yes, its the 2000 in the center of the top photo, lower right in the second photo.

Gold-plated cent? Who does/did this and why?

Just started playing with the macro setting on my cam, thanks for the props :)

It's somebodies idea of fun. Worth, well 1¢.... Now if you would have found that 1/10 ounce GAE in a roll/bag, THAT would be a find.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

No kidding, a GAE find or two would take the hobby to a whole new level.

I'm awaiting delivery of a lincoln cent cherry picker's guide "Looking Through Lincoln Cents: A Chronology of a Series" and acquired a nifty lighted loupe, hoping to find some diamonds in the rough.

I keep the nicer gold plated pennies I find, the ones that haven't been rubbed so much the Cu shows in spots and are all nice and shiny.
I'm not really sure why I do, they've all been Zinkers so far.
Maybe I'll be able to put together set of gold plated Memorials some day?
