Hello All

I'm a newbie and I have really enjoyed this site. I've decided to come out of the shadows to post this. I have been hoarding Cu for about 2 months now. I've been sorting about 2 boxes a week by hand. Until this past week my averages have been about 15- 20% Cu. Lately I've had much more Cu-about 25-30%! I hope this trend continues!!

Is anyone else seeing more Cu?

Welcome! What I am seeing is all over the place right now for Cu. I'll get rolls to search and the amount of Cu is higher than normal. Then the next batch is way, way lower. It seems to be trending down for me though overall. For sure the trend that is most discouraging is that I am seeing fewer and fewer wheat cents. And nary an IH to be found.

Enjoy.

Welcome to the show. It's never too late. Percentages are increasing for a lot of people. Keep up the good work, and post often!

Welcome to the forum Sunshine! My percentages have been all over the place also. I am seeing more customer wrapped rolls (CWR) than I used to in the past. I think as the economy gets worse we will see even more, and there is a better probability of finding good stuff in those rolls. What a hobby, huh? You get the coins at the bank, you go through them looking for keepers, and you still have all your money. Couldn't design a better hobby for these hard times.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Thanks for the welcomes!!!

HoardCopperByTheTon--I'm with you--I like the idea of a hobby that really costs nothing because I always end up with the same amt of $ I started with. Yippee!!!

I have noticed more Cu in CWR's.

Welcome to the Wide World of Pennies.
Try to keep you hand sorting under the threshold of Cu poisoning!
Latex gloves may help you avoid this horrible condition.
The first symptoms are eying the take-a-penny tray and convincing yourself you'll never find a Feathered Liberty.

hello sunshine and coinchamp

computer jones is right on about those symptoms...i couldn't keep my eyes off that 1969 canadian in the take-a-penny tray today. I finally broke down and traded a zinc for it. The cashier looked at me like I was nuts.

happy hunting to you.

It doesn't stop there either. Soon you will not be able to leave any coin or collection of coins alone. You will be examining every coin you can get your hands on, devising ways to get your hands on even more.

Open cash registers, take-a-penny trays, coins on the ground. It will all be fair game.

You will find yourself offering to buy the coins from people in line at the Coinstars.

In the advance stages you will sort in the parking lots of banks then dumping at the next bank. Or worse, sorting halves while driving.

It is a debilitating disease.

Yes, I see how it could be a chronic condition. :o) I like the idea of hanging out near Coinstars. I really need to get a job where I have access to coins. And I need to get a metal detector.

Hi all,

I think I definitely have gotten Cu poisoning. I am already guilty of keeping my eyes to the ground to see if I can find a penny, and I have changed some zincs for coppers in the take a penny container. The looks on the cashiers faces are priceless. When I buy something and pay cash, I also ask for my change in pennies.

I have gone back to just sorting copper from zinc, I've given up on finding an error unless it is so blinding that I would see it while dumping the roll or checking the date.

Talk to you soon!

Coin collecting via coin roll hunting really does cost nothing - in fact I make a little off it :)

Machine collecting, on the other hand, can be an expensive hobby. I know all about that.

Welcome to Sunshine29 - post early and post often :)
