I just walked into a branch I don't normally bank at and asked the teller if they had $100 in halves. She looked at me like I was from Jupiter, then turned to ask all the other tellers and the assistant branch manager if they had that much in halves. The others didn't look at me quite as weird, but then again I don't know exactly what the teller told them. They came up with four rolls of halves--$40--and when I got home a few minutes ago and opened them up, I was disappointed that there was no silver to be had, but out of the 80 halves, 34 of them are bicentennials from 1976. Unreal. So I got to thinking, to try to make lemonade out of these lemons, I think I'll put the bicentennials on eBay and see what they might fetch. It could be interesting...

why would they fetch anything? Hell please tell me nothing becuase I would have to guess that of the 3000 coins I have searched I have had about a third of them being the Bicentennials.
the bank probably gave you that look because in most cases they do not keep those in stock as it counts against their daily and monthly holdings. Why keep a not often coin on hand when the other coins in circulation would be used more often. Each back is only allowed so much money at any given time. |

The bicentennial years were one of the highest mintages produced. Good luck with your selling endeavors. |

I used most of them to pay for a meal at Denny's last night. The rest I used to buy a couple Powerball tickets to try to win a ton of FRNs so I could buy a ton of silver...of course, finding silver right now is about as much of a longshot as winning Powerball!

They also come in pretty handy to buy gas. I especially enjoy coming back in for my change and seeing the clerk madly sorting my drop rolls. I usually tell them, "I think there's a lot of those Bicentennial coins in these rolls." Then there's the clerk that is actually relieved when I use FRN's to purchase gas. I don't think he has enough space in his cash register to keep the rolls and they won't fit into any coin slot of his drop vault. |

While you're coin roll searching halves, be on the lookout for the 1970D or 1987P or 1987D |

I've been looking for '87's and '70's for quite some time now. It was almost a let down when I found a Silver Bicentennial instead of a '70. I finally traded for some '87's. Now all I need are the'70's to complete my Kennedy collection. Anybody want to trade any halves (and I'm talking Bens, Walkers as well as 90%, 40% and/or circulated proof Kennedys for a '70 or two???? |
