I was just wondering how often you guys come across IKE dollars when you go to banks. Very rarely do I find any. I got 19 on my last half hunting run though

I get them not infrequently. The trick is to ask for dollar coins too as well as halves. Most tellers will quickly volunteer they have Ikes if you say you want those new Presidential dollar coins too. It is almost like they really want to get rid of them. I already have had about 5 separate times where that has happened in the past 2 months.

I run across them every now and then with out too much difficulty. When I spend them I think half of them people save, the other half end up back at the banks, and I buy them again...

I haven't been taking notes, but it does seem they are usually accompanied with halves.

Why would you spend them when you can sell them for $1.10-$1.50?

I usually ask at the banks when I'm buying or dumping and usually find 3 to 8 for sale. I usually buy them. I like to leave them as tips when I eat lunch out. I also have a couple hundred in my box at the bank, I keep the nicest of the shiny ones.

Because it's fun! And you have sell an awful lot at 10 cents profit to pay for the gas and time you'd spending hauling them to a dealer.

That's assuming any dealer is even going to buy them above FV. At those slim premiums over face, what's in it for a dealer?

The nearest dealer to me is 1 gallon of gas round trip for me. Even if I could get 10¢ over FV, I would have to sell 18 just to break even.

Just not worth it for me. I rather spend them or give them to my nephews and niece. They love those BIG coins.

Agreed - using the big Ikes as tips are more fun than dollar bills.

Plus, the waitress remembers you the next time you come in.

Sure, you give up a dime or so on the coin, but the extra service you get because you use those coins suuuure make up for that measly dime. :)

I didn't even know they existed til the other day. The teller holds up a stack of nine and asked if I wanted them. They're cool looking.

Update: I now have 12 ikes with one being a bicentennial. Y'all got any bicentennial ikes?

I did a drive by for Halves and the Vault Teller asked me if I wanted any Ikes as she went to get the three rolls she had n the valut.
She was real happy to get rid of the Ike roll (no "S's or Silver).
"Now I don't have to account for it any more!", she said with glee.
They're out there for face if you look, and you really don't have to look alll that hard.

We have a small honey business. I give them out in change along with halves. People do remember.
