Shock and awe!

I picked up the four boxes from a bank where I have a standing weekly order. I weighed them and thought my scale was messed up so I weighed an average box and it came in at 14 lbs. 10 oz.
I had to see what was going on and when I opened it - sure enough - 99% brown pennies!!!
They were all slick with light machine oil.
I pulled the wheats and sorted box 1 and found only 95 zincers!!
There were 35 wheats incl. 2 teens, 2 twenties and a 30 vintage. there was also a 1953 Panamanian cent. That's a 96.2% keeper rate!!!

My theory is that due to the low CU prices, Coinstar told Brinks to dump the copper. A dream come true!

I hope my thoery is correct - I guessed that could happen on an earlier post here and Hoard agreed.

My skunk box rate has been about 20% in the last year so I'm hoping there will be many more monster boxes released.
What does this mean? 1 box like this equals 5 average boxes for me including the wheat %. I average a little over 19% and 7 wheats per box. Perfect!
I'll update the other box totals as I sort them.

Update-
Box 2 - 40 wheats, only 82 zincs
Box 3 (Slightly under 17 lbs.) - 26 wheats & 270 zincs

Box 4 - 41 wheats, 108 zincs

4 box totals- 142 wheats
94.45 % CU.

Beer is my currency.

Nice score. More than makes up for the skunks I say, if not for the percentages, for the thrill of the find. Congratulations.

Congrats on the awesome percentage.

I haven't noticed any real changes in the percentages in my area, at least hopefully not yet...

Wow TxTim that is impressive. Someone in the US has finally better our Canadian copper percentages! You may be very right about Coinstar/Brinks - because who else is going to fill up a Brinks box like that? What is with the machine oil though? Someone dumping cheap oil now too?

Great story TxTim! This is a lot better than hearing all those skunk stories. Maybe the redistribution of these coppers will be along the same lines as those of us that experienced significant skunks. They can't hold them forever. Since there is no market and copper prices are low they might be doing some significant releases soon to free up capital. All of us that got serious skunkings in the past should probably start upping our orders.

Sorry Epaphras.. I don't think any 17 pounders are in your future. Copper percentages are so low in GA that Brinks doesn't even bother to sort the copper out there.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

Wow...those are some nice numbers!! Congrats on the find. Let's hope your theory is accurate and that we'll see percentages go back up while copper is down. Alot of people think copper (and PM's) will explode back up shortly so maybe now is the time to ramp up the sorting?

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.
