While roll hunting, I found a 1969 half with a 3/16 hole bored through the top of JFK's head. Seeing as I can't do too much more to ruin it, I would like to polish it and make it into a necklace for my girlfriend (maybe with matching earrings made of mercury dimes?). Does anybody have any good ideas on how I can polish this coin?

Thanks!

60 grit aluminum oxide paper works for me, it gets all those bumps, and ridges off it...

Tell you the truth, silver cleaner might work... but I am no expert, as I am still using sand paper.

I've used speedi-dip on trash coins. It helps, but it won't take all the tarnish off unless it's only lightly tarnished. for any other crud, try dawn dish washing liquid.

I haven't done it on coins but for other silver pieces cigarette ashes or hardwood ashes dry removes tarnish FAST. Just use a rag corner or some on your finger.

Rotary tool with a buffer bit coupled with some polishing compound...you will only be able to tell that it was cleaned under magnification by examining the very small abrasion marks.

Hagerty Silversmith Wash
or
Hagerty Silver Foam
both get the tarnish off of silver coins or silver jewelry.

Jeweler's rouge takes tarnish off of gold jewelry but it will also work on silver.

Try NEVR-DULL

You must be logged in to see this link.

Works like a charm on coins you don't care about. Can be found at mom & pop hardware stores for about $5/can. You don't need any special tools, just elbow grease. You'll find dozens of other things to polish with it.

Great stuff. Nevr-Dull will shine that coin right up.

Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark
