Halves are 90% silver before 1964 and 40% from 1965-1969...there are some halves that are 90% silver from proof sets but again those are NIFC (not intended for circulation). Always check the rims for the missing copper band
Every area is different- all you can do is try it and see. Get them lil net bags of chocolate coins- not the pirate gold from the $ store, the good ones are .99 apiece and give them to the tellers when you go to pickup- boxes are heavy and they will soon get tired of seeing you come in. HH Mark
Percentages are gonna vary from person to person. There are two types of halves to sort.....Fed rolls and customer wrapped rolls (CWR). I'll give you an experience with Fed rolls at one bank.....First attempt..46 rolls, almost the entire box, (box holds 50). Here are the results of that attempt:
Out of the 46 rolls of halves I bought I got:
5 - 64's 1 - 65 2 - 67's 3 - 68's 3 - 69's
I have been back since and bought a box and it was a skunk. I bought another 45 rolls today and so far, five rolls in...nothing.
Now for an experience at another bank where I bought my first halves (3 rolls). these weren't fed rolls. Of those 3 rolls I got one 40% half. Next purchase of 9 CWR's .... I found one roll with all 1964...90%. A rare find. I have been doing this for about 4 weeks now. Here's my results:
I've just checked my first two boxes (from the fed to my local credit union) and got 2 90% and 9 40%. Split evenly between each box i.e. 1/5 and 1/4 (90/40% per box).
Two boxes today, 1st time. I found a 67 and a 68 only. I hope this won't be the norm for my area.
If you always get that you might be lucky. Skunks happen - and sometimes the silver santa visits. it is all pretty random.
