Funny how banks can vary in their policy of selling bags of coins. A local bank said a few weeks ago it was not a problem really buying their counted bags of coins. I went in today with cash thinking I may score a bag of pennies or quarters or nickels or half dollars or dimes. The teller went to the side office and consulted her superior. She came back and said no, they could not sell. Reason was that the count may not be accurate. I let it go and smiled and thanked them. I plan to open an account with one of their neighboring branches and march in to this branch and have my halves counted and credited to my account. I am sort of ticked but will make lemonade out of it. Contrast this with another bank further away. I walked in to their branch this afternoon and asked if they still sold bags of coins and they said yes. I confirmed that they had them counted via their machine. So, in my mind, the $50 bag of pennies I bought is pretty close to 5000 coins plus or minus a few possibly. They were decent about the sale of coins too and I feel like I can come back there again in a few weeks to buy more. I think it is slightly strange how a bank can be afraid of selling a bag of coins unless they really believe the count could be wrong. I almost believe that the bank today just did not want to bother selling the coins and getting involved in the whole thing of maybe doing some paperwork. Maybe they will relax their stance if I come in weekly with bag of coins to count? They will probably cut me off at some point, lol.

Smile real nice, and polity tell them you are a collector and sort them, and that you don't care if the count is a wee bit off. I had a credit union sell to me for this reason because they are a regular drive by bank for me.

I picked up a bag of 5,000 a few days ago and the teller felt bad that she didn't have rolls. I was thinking, dang, you know how much time I'm gonna save by not having to open 100 rolls? The percentages turned out to be pretty much the same - actually a point or two higher. Bags all day long!

I have to learn how to sweet talk a little better so I can get those bags off the machine all the time without encouraging too many questions.

I agree with Kurr. The banks I deal with told me the same thing the count may be off. I said that I understood that and that I don't verify the count on the bags anyway and even if a bag was off by 2 or 3 pennies I certainly wasn't going to complain about it. I have several banks that I get $50.00 bags from.

COPPER - the "poormans" precious metal!!!

SELLING - $100.00 face copper shipped to you for $189.00 machine rolled or bagged - PM me if your interested.

The bank may be OK with that tact but they can just as easily say that the count is over, thereby "cheating" the bank out of some money. At least that is what I am afraid they might say as a wiggle-room allowed method of just not wanting to bother with me. I will not pursue it with them but will attempt to open an account with them and make the effort to dump coins in their branch.

I vote for bags. Less work and usually more "stuff" in 'em. You can probably sweet talk them out of the bags.

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."
