If the silver market is manipulated to keep the price of silver low then why? Lower price silver only means that more of it will be used in industry and less conserved. If TPTB don't want it to be used as money then how is lowering the price of it going to prevent that?
I don't think it is being manipualated. I just think that the short term speculators have pulled out of it and the bubble broke just like it did for copper, oil, and a lot of other commodities. I just don't think there is as a speculative demand for commodites like there was before. The world's economic growth is slowing down if we like it or not.

| If you have the money for 1,000 ounce bars and are willing to wait 3 months to take delivery then place an order on the COMEX. |

As far as WHY the spot price appears to be manipulated, from what I've read it probably has something to do with the futures markets. Check out David Morgan's excellent commentaries on the silver market and what's going on right now:

I don't think the bubble has burst on the commodities market insofar as silver's price drop is concerned. The fact is that there is a lot more paper out there than there actually is silver right now. The volume of paper is making it seem as if there is far more available silver than there actually is--sort of like the amount of gold held by the U.S. government versus the value of outstanding FRNs. I can't see any other plausible explanation as to why silver's price is in the cellar right now, but you can bet your last FRN that silver is going to skyrocket once the accounting irregularities regarding the actual silver supply are cleared up. |

I quit smoking a few months ago. Ive decided Im going to put the extra $120+ a month directly into Silver.
I have started using my Ryedale and whatever money I can make from that will go directly into buying silver as well.
I plan to continue this for as long as its possible to do so. Better safe than sorry. Everything else aside, Im still putting the same amount of money into my other savings. |

Scooter, this is bigger than any long-term trends per se. Between likely manipulation of the silver market and where the U.S. economy is heading, the long-term outlook is much less rosy for people relying on the dollar. Check out the Shadowstats link in my signature--great article that I'd think most people would be hard-pressed to refute. |

| Of course the market is manipulated. Every seller tries to manipulate the price up and ever buyer tries to manipulate it down. Throw in a few problems, such as a need to sell something for quick cash, and you have a market that is hard to explain without assuming manipulation. We currently have very sloppy management by the exchanges, increasing the appearance of shady dealings. (There are always some shady dealings no matter what.) The general rule is "You don't get any points for whining." Several well known dealers have been trying for years to force an investigation, with little success. The thing to do is just make your own investments according to your best judgement. The manipulation, if any, doesn't really affect the small investor. |
