Right now I'm doing about ~$250 in pennies and $40,000 in halves every month. A couple of things I learned in the past 2 years are:
1. Never move coins in anything plastic. Last week I had a plastic bin made of HDPE break on me. It was supposed to be able to hold much more weight than it did. It spilled $1500 in halves in a parking lot. The funny thing is that the 10 people who stopped to ask why I had so many coins said "that's a lot of quarters." I'm using a military surplus rucksack to move $1000 - $1500 at a time. I prefer this method because no one sees what you're carrying outside of the bank, whether it be moving boxes marked $500 from the bank to the car or coins from the car to the bank.
2. Wear latex gloves while sorting. This isn't a must, but I find that it keeps my hands cleaner and I don't need to scrub my hands so much when I take a break for a snack.
3. I'm young, so when I ask for 10 boxes of halves, the tellers look at me funny. I find it helps to show them you have the funds in their bank available to pick them up. I also find that they're much more willing to re-order if you promptly pick them up after they arrive.
4. Since I can only get boxes of halves, I'm left with many boxes marked $500 and roll wrappers marked $10. I live in a questionable neighborhood, so I throw all trash out in thick black trash bags. They go to the dumpster only in the morning, about the time I leave for school, on days that the trash will be picked up.
5. Be honest with your dump banks. I have one bank who routinely audits their coin counting machines. Since I'm the only one they know of dumping massive quantities of halves I occasionally get credited for coins that "weren't counted as they should have been." I keep boxes of coins separated, sort one boxes, segregate the dumps, replace halves that have been removed. This way I always know the exact amount I plan to dump. Several times I've been credited over $100 that I know wasn't mine. The bank manager is always happy when I return the money.
I hope some of you guys will share some of the tips and tricks you have picked up!

| Yeah, maybe 4k? If it really is that much, then you have some serious cash to play with. |

If you are doing 40K a week in halves, why only do $250 in pennies? That's a lot of cash to play with.
Deal |
Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

| $40k/month. I use $6000 and pick up/dump twice per week. The reason I'm doing so few pennies is because I hand sort. I spread my action between 6 pick up banks and 8 dump banks. The one branch is willing to order me 10 boxes at a time, which makes it quite easy. |

Go get 'em drs499m! I wish I could go at half as hard as you're hitting the Halves. You should be acquiring some rather nice finds. Do you look for proofs and/or anything else "spacial" other than Ag? |

some tips
1. invest in a cart. they have some that fold and can fit in your trunk.
2. never ask a teller to lift more than $500 in halves - i think that is 25 lbs.
3. put your coin trash in separate bags and dump that trash away from your house. for example, when you buy gas. |

| I always offer to lift coin boxes, no matter how little or small. I think $1k is 70 lbs, I calculated this with a less than accurate bathroom scale. I have 5 standing orders, the last bank I have to request every week. I had a car accident recently, so my large scale operation was on hiatus for a couple of weeks, but in the last week, I've pulled nearly 50 troy ounces of silver. I pull out proofs and what not when I see them, I only date check about half the rolls, so I'm sure I miss far too many. Last week I found my first 2 walking liberty halves, a 34 and a 45. I was quite happy about that. I seem to pull out 40%:90% in a 2:1 ratio. 10% of my total finds are Ben's, the vast majority of the rest are obviously Kennedy's. I'm a chemical engineering student, so I tend to sort between homework. |
