I have not contacted our coin shop lately to find out what they want for junk silver. A few weeks ago I think they wanted 10x face value. Now that silver is in the $9 range, and given that a 90% silver coin right now is roughly 6.7 x face in silver value, I'd expect them to drop to 9x face. I see on Ebay it is more like 10x face for the 90% coins. Anyone finding 9x face or less right now?

| I got a quote of 10.2 X face today for 90% half dollars. Just about the only silver left at the Erie dealers today. But I bet you would be hard pressed to get him to buy at 6 X face. |

About a month ago a hobby shop that has a coin section was selling junk Ag at 9X. 2 weeks ago they bumped it up to 10X, even though the price of Ag was lower. I offered to pay 9X and they refused.
That is the cheapest so far, that I have been able to find in my parts at a brick & morter store. Most of it was worn and dateless, definiteley junk. I have pulled better looking stuff from circulation.
This company has some attractive prices for junk Ag, their shipping seems reasonable too.

| I went to a coin show last week and the best price I found was 10X face for halfs. I ended up finding a decent deal on a few Canadian Loonies though. |
Are you throwing that out? |

I went to a coin show last week and was quoted 10.5x face. I thought that was a bit high considering the spot price. Then I found out the same dealer was paying 9.5-10x.. so that seemed to be the market at that show. I was able to buy a small amount at 9.2 and another small amount at 8.5x. It is tough to find any out here in decent quantities for a fair price. |

If the dealer is paying 10x and selling for 10.5, that is a pretty solid dealer.
My spread is way higher ;-) |

| I was suprised he was paying that much.. usually spreads are higher. Makes me think he wasn't having a lot of problems unloading it at 10.5. Of course that was before the latest price drop.. now he will probably want 11x.. LOL |

Hoard there are a lot of smaller dealers that are paying a lot more to get silver in stock than they normally would thanks to the widely publicized 'silver shortage' hence the decreasing spread.
I think there's such a thing as a *cheap* silver shortage but not necessarily a silver shortage...at least not yet. |
