EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — A Las Vegas man has pleaded guilty to scheming southern Illinois investors out of thousands of dollars for a project to recover gold that never existed.
Michael Dotson admitted in federal court in East St. Louis Friday that he took cash from investors in Madison, White and Clay counties to recover gold he knew wasn’t there.
Prosecutors said Dotson promised investors a payoff of 20 times their initial investment and received at least $2,400 from victims in Dahlgren, Flora and Alton.
