Any Idea on the price of Silver Flatware? How much is it worth for the silver content? I bought some Sterling silver flatware this weekend for $1 a utensil. Any idea on the price of silver plated flatware? is it even worth the trouble?

I actually brought some sterling flatware too at my fleamarket too. But it was no where near the awesome deal you got. I paid $4 a piece for mine. My scale says that most flatware is 15-20 grams a piece for Avg. normal size silverware. Knifes weigh less because its just the handles that are silver and larger pieces may weigh more.

Refineries are currently paying .25 cents a gram for sterling when silver is $11. Some designs and manufactures maybe rare and can be worth ALOT more. Glance through ebay for that stuff.

silver plate in used condition is worthless for resale, only scrap value which is minimal.

sterling ones always have a premium of at least 25% above scrap and could as high as 100 x scrap, unless they are damaged. This would be for resale purposes and not scrapping. retail is antique store, ebay, etc.

wow you got a great deal on that flatware. I've been to a few auctions where people were paying upwards of 20$ for a piece and seen some fetch 40-50 but those where for the serving utensals. Definitly check the maker of the flatware as there are a bunch of names that command a very high price as long as there not banged up and if the have a monogram they will get a little less but still more than scrap value.
