All $727.00 worth in zinc. 7.5 small garbage cans worth. Yea... I got lots of wierd looks, but it was worth every penny. Maybe we should all do this even if its just part of the mortgage.

I'm always trying to play jokes on my cashier here in my dealership by bringing up my $25 boxes I get asking if she could trade them out for cash. You should see the looks I get. But on the good side they are pulling all the pre 82 pennies for me at cost and no handling fees just a smile.

You know, I've threatened uncooperative bank managers with doing that, but it never actually came down to it...many props my friend!

This bank happens to be my mortgage bank, but never ordered any brink boxes for me in 3 years. Since I am no longer sorting, I decided I am going to get even by bringing my left over uncashed zincs in. I have enough to pay 3 more house payments.... Too bad I didn't do this from the beggining. I think they have no choice but to take my legal tender no matter how ridiculous it is. I could say I am protesting the Bailouts if I get resistance.

That's awesome Bill! I am proud of you! You now hold the record for the largest single payment in zinc. I feel challenged now. My mortgage is just slightly higher than yours because it includes an impound for RE Tax. I will have to try it.. especially since my mortgage holder is WAMU.

Next thing you know, you'll be paying for your gas with bricks of zinc like Deal and I do.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

I am about to go in again for a principal only payment. Judging by weight, I have approx $4500 in zinc left, which is more than I thought. I stopped sorting 2 months ago. (no... I am not selling ryedale sorter - too expensive if change mind some day). Wish would have done this along time ago. Dumping zinc has never been easier...

Don't even worry about making your payment anymore Hoard.
The bailout will take care of that for you!

The bailout isn't going to do me any good Tim. I have one of the "good" loans. Even with losing $250k in phantom equity due to the decline in the housing market, I still own substantially more of the house than the bank.. so you know they would steal it from me if I were ever to get behind on payments.

If you want to calculate face value of your zinc by weight Bill.. I weighed a standard plastic bank bag of 5000 on my scale the other day.. 27.72 pounds.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

These days they may be happy you are paying at all. But they may be thinking now that his "sofa money" is gone how will he swing the mortgage next month?

I dont know if you guys saw it, but there was a commercial for a student loan place that showed a college kid shaking his couch to try to find some loose change to pay his tuition. He only found a few coins. Bill found over 5 grand in his couch.

Your killing me Moboman... :) Hoardby is right... Each garbage can weighed 56.5 pounds with approx 10000 zincs and weight of plastic can. It works perfect for my zinc dump. So, with my 727.00 zinc dump, the weight a little over 400 pounds... we actually stopped the counter at 727.14, and I had 500 or so left. Eyes were rolling :)
