I may not have found a wild injun yet but I have found a rare double die. I was just sorting by hand and I always put the 82's 83's 84's 98's 99's and 00's to the side to look for errors and this weekend I found one. It is going on ebay today at 3:30 EST and the item number is 290264422885. I'm only giving you the item number cause the pics are on the auction and I am at work right now and have no access to the pics here, I'm in no way soliciting anyone here to place a bid. Just check it out and let me know what you think of it.

Super nice one! I've found 3 where the doubling is only visible with magnification, and in lousy condition, and the same with some '72s. Best of luck! (BTW: I'm one of the watchers)

Nice find. I never check for that stuff....

There 13 watchers right now. Thanks for the support. Hand sorting gives me a great oppurtunity to look for errors also.

The bidding is already up to $48.87. What does this particular double-die typically command pricewise?

FB, I've been plucking every 1972 penny I see out of my copper pile since that's the year my girlfriend was born and she's a coin nut as well. I've got several hundred 1972s. I'll take a look at these for double-dies. Thanks for the tip.

Outstanding!! Good for you, and awesome find.

You did better than good, Yah done great!
The only down side I can see is now I have to retrain my brain that a nice DDR '83 is worth more than my rather circulated looking '09 VDB.
Is there a dance or ritual to help re-groove my brain waves?
Maybe it all boils down to being at the right place at the right time (and I usually don't seem to wind up anywhere near there).
Congratulations SI, Yah did great!

There's profit if you melt things!!

Thanks everyone, the dance all depends on how much room you have to run around in circles swinging your arms like a maniac. lol

Awesome find!!!

When I first told my brother I was searching through coins for a project I am working on he told me to be sure to search for the 1983 DDR. I thought he was crazy as there couln't possibly still be any out there in circulation.

I just sent him a link to the photo and told him when I am able to begin searching coins again I will be looking carefully at every 1983 I come across.

Again, congrats!
