| Just go to your local bank and ask them if you can buy there bags off them instead of them sending them back to the fed. Most banks I come across are more than happy to get rid of them just dont bring them back to the same bank. |

| I will sell you loose bags of coin-no sorting required. If that doesn't work, get a Roll Cracker 1000 (info in the equipment area) You know you want one! |

It really depends on your local banks. I almost never get them loose in a bag.
Best thing would be to look for branches where they have coin counting machines in the lobby. This would greatly increase the chance of there being loose bags available for purchace rather than having to crack all those rolls.
Well.. back out to the Penny Processing Center for me.. to crack some more rolls.. as least until the RollCracker 1000 arrives. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

| What I have found is that not all banks use brinks to supply their coins. Ask your teller who they use at all your banks that you have an account with. If they all say brinks then you might be scruud. Try a new bank but before you open a new account ask them who they use. |

| My BoA uses both brinks and the car wash on the same road brings them in rolls of coins , while my vystar credit union has an inhouse company they use which is not brinks. |

Easiest way is to just get a few rolls from each bank as a sample. You can then look at them and often determine who supplies their coin. Just because the coins are in the plastic Brinks wraps does not automatically make them bad. Two of my source banks give me Brinks wrap coin and the copper percentages are running exactly the same as other suppliers and CWR. Also, different branches of the same bank may have different suppliers. They may be Brinks wrapped in one town and come in N.F. String & Son paper at another. N.F. String does not wrap coins.. they merely sell a good quality paper for automatic rolling machines that many coin processing companies use. For bags, just ask the person that handles the coins at each branch. |

or you could get a box and throw it on the scale! My CWR's always weigh 15+ per box. My brinks rolls are like 14.4-14.6 (on avg). |

| The banks I go to all tell me the coins in the bag are property of Brinks and that I am not allowed to have them. |

Banks really vary in their policies so you have to shop around...I am trying to do a little research on the ones in my area and see if their prickly policies correlate to
1) how big/nationwide they are and 2) how they score on Bankrate.com for safeness/soundness
I am finding that the people staffing the BB&Ts and the SunTrusts around here are really nice to me (granted I am not asking for big amounts of coins loose or wrapped). The worse their Bankrate.com rating though the more unaccommodating they are...the one star (lowest rated) banks either don't want to be your buy or dump banks even with an account (Virginia Savings Bank FSB) and when you do turn in rolled coin they want to open it up and count it (apparently they have not heard of or are too cheap to use a scale to weigh coins...Stellar Bank, a one star bank does this...thank goodness I only turned in 4 rolls of zinc pennies to get a roll of nickels to sort and stockpile)
The other thing I am noticing is that the older tellers are nicer while the younger tellers are really sticklers for the rules...I always groan when I go to my dump bank and get waited on by a younger teller because the process takes longer for me to cash in the zincers...the older tellers just count the rolls and hand over the cash and don't bother with checking the computer to prove I have an account there (this bank is a three star bank...middle of the road for safety/soundness) |

I can usually get a couple of rolls at least, from some of the 7/11 type stores. They process a pile of change and are usually GLAD to get rid of their excess pennys and nickles if you tell 'em you want them. :-) Some of the older hoods in your area will produce older coins because of the number of elderly people still living there that use that corner store. Works 4 me...

The bags of coin become property of Brinks once the person with the authority to sign the shipping invoice applies their John Hanrooster to the list of what is being shipped. You need to get to the bag (not the signatory, the sack of metal) first! You have to ask if they will sell you sacks of coin and leave your phone number before they get them ready to go. When (if) they call, hot foot it over there and buy ASAP! Eventually you'll find the Banks and S&L's willing to sell coin and, after a few successful purchases, they'll even hold coins a day or two for you once you develop a good buying relationship. |

Something like this?

Of course those are full boxes. I don't think a pic like that really gets you any higher prices on eBay. Anything you may have noticed in the past is purely synchronicity. |

Actually, what I'm probably going to do is move my couch and stack up enough boxes to cover the entire wall (my apartment is in an old building with a 12-foot ceiling, so this will be pretty tall) to create (cue dramatic voice) THE MASSIVE WALL OF PENNY BOXES. At the very least, it will be a photo that people can reference as proof that I've gone off the deep end of the copper bowl.
By the way, Hoard, is that about $4,000 in that photo? I have probably about that many empty penny boxes in the house, but just imagine these stacked up one-deep up the wall instead of four-deep like you have them and you'll get an idea of what this photo of mine will look like. Sort of like the Great Wall of China (which is a pretty good restaurant ) but without the Huns trying to invade to steal all the copper.
