Besides for prices and driving distance, what are some other aspects that attract people who are selling scrap metal to certain scrap metal yards and steel companies? What kind of advertising catches the eye of the general public? Things like a safe and efficient environment always help. Anything that makes your scrap metal selling experience better!

I go to the yard that i do because they unload for you with magnet, have more knowledgeable and clean looking employees, pay cash vs check, and get you in and out. You unload on concrete instead of mud.

Prices are equal if not better as well.

I've only used one yard around here. They consistantly offer the best prices when I call, and their yard is close, easy to get to, clean, and convenient to unload. Their employees are clean and professional, and its an all around easy experience. They make it so that I don't need or want to go any where else (although I do call around, lol).

Billboards along the highway seem to catch my eye the most.

I go to a yard in the ghetto, they pay cash and there tends to be "undesirables" there, but I'm not worried about that....

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

Theres a closer scrapyard that is great because its only 5 mins. away. But its one crap yards that popped open over night. Its just a lot with a crappy moblie office thrown on it (with a hole in front). Their mean, rude, and look like their doing illegal things. And most of all they make you weigh things and YOU must move your scrap to their piles. Thats bull.

So how nice and convenient they are wins my junk. Because this place was likely built for the current high prices they tend to use ad's a lot like those gold buyers who pop out of nowhere for quick business.

I go where I go because they are legit and give me a customer account.

All over their office they have print outs of local metal thefts and I just get a feel that they care and do not just buy anything metal, stolen or legit. They even ask where I get the stuff, but never question me like Im a crook.

The customer account is nice because they review it to see what kind of weight I bring them, which is then reflected positively back to me in higher prices.

This place is 25 miles further than the closest yard to me, but that yard is shady and everyone knows it.

Those who trade liberty for security have neither.

The next time you have your load ready, call around and get a few quotes from a couple different yards. Could be worth the extra miles of driving.
